Aux-Larger Trans Cooler

My trans temp are great 80% of the time but hauling heavy daily in Chicago stop and go traffic means the other 20% the temps can climb fast. I know the reason why-lack of airflow but I figured another larger cooler cant hurt anything. Are there any aux trans coolers out there?

I just read a post the other day about a member that had installed one of these and seemed very happy. Sorry I can't find the post, but I did bookmark the web site he had referenced. Looks like a nice kit.

Low airflow at lower speeds and the greater amount of shear on the trans fluid during low speed towing can increase temps quickly. If adding another trans cooler you are on the right track if you are thinking of a fan powered cooler setup. Go big!

hey sapps, that does look like a quality kit for sure ... i saw you've seriously upgraded your tranny, did that setup automatically come with a deep sump tranny pan?

The same guy sells them on ebay for much less. I bought one for my truck and installed it. Very nice kit! Complete with everything you need. Works great.

What do you consider high temps??? Just wondering what kinda actual numbers your runnin. The reason I ask... I just installed the Mag-tech double deep trans and rear covers. I put a double temp gauge in and in light around town traffic and also 3 hr highway runs.. I'm readin about 150 in bad traffic the highest I've seen is about 170.. note.. nothing in tow and not "loaded".

The double deep pan makes the auto a 9 qt. system. I just wish I know what my trans temps were with the stock pan/5 qty system.

Thumbs up Keep it cool!

A rule I've always lived by is that you can't make auto tranny fluid cold enough, ever! I never had tranny issues with my auto trucks except in towing situations at low speed (i.e. mountain trips). I know that the truck really only needed an electric fan to move air when going slow. The issue of course is so much is packed into the front that to put one large enough to push an over adequate amount of air, just didn't fit. The kit on ebay looks like a monster of a kit and is probably the thing that's necessary. However it doesn't address the power steering/ hydro boost cooling problem at low speed and that was my biggest reason for going back to a manual. Just something to not overlook. Oh yeah, you may want to put the sending unit in the output line before the cooler. That will give you the most accurate reading. Get the line from diesel manor.
