Question Anyone here ever remove a bedliner?

From a 2004.5 short bed?

How difficult is it?

I want to get a LineX spray-in and don't want to pay them to remove the exsting bedliner.

Also, does the LineX spray go over the top of the tailgate?

Thanks,

DT.

What type of liner are you wanting to remove (eg. drop-in or spray in)?

They are usually easy to remove. There maybe some plastic clips holding it and some screws holding the tailgate protector. Most spray-in bedliner places offer over or under the rail liners.

If you are talking about a drop-in bedliner, yes, I removed the one out of my 99 before getting it shot with a liner. Not a big deal. Having another person helps.

Line-X will go over the top of the tailgate if you pay them for it!

The 4 cleats at each corner just above the bed can be removed using torks screw driver, 2 screws each. Then there is one screw on each side of the bed back by the gate that you will have to bust out. They are expansion fastners that just turn if you try to back them out.

Lift up on the middle of the liner back by the tailgate and that causes the edges to clear the bed rail. After one side or the other clears, twist the bedline in the opposite direction. If one person is doing it you really have to horse it around. It is not that heavy, but it is hard to handle.

Once it is out, what to do with it???

Thanks for the info.

RonsRig, how do you suggest I bust out those screws?

Hammer and punch?

And you're saying besides those expansion fasteners there's just the four cleats and that's it?

If it's that easy I bet the Line-X installer can get it out in a matter of minutes without it costing me much at all.

I'll just sell it for $150.00 or so. It's practically brand new.

dieselnewbie,

You can have the liner sprayed over the tailgate rail. I would also recommend you have the rails on the side of the bed sprayed also. They scratch very easily if not protected.

My plan was to pry the heads off with a blade screwdriver, but the plastic part of the expansion fastner broke and the screw came out.

When I got my Line-X, they pulled it out for nothing. That also put it in their hands to get rid of, which they already had a system setup with a place to get rid of them. Took the hassle and worry out of me doing it all as well as getting rid of it. Not to mention I wouldn't give a drop-in liner to someone just because of how crap they are.
