Anyone bought a new lift pump lately, OUCH!!
Well, two days ago my truck was hard to start, lots of cranking. Yesterday morning I went to start and really had to work at it, watched the fuel pressure drop to 0 when cranking, but with a little throttle peddle while cranking i got it to start, pressure stayed around 0. I only have an under hood, post filter guage... So I drove it to my shop.
Figured I would just get a carter for now, last time it was around $180, did not really want to spend the $450 for a fass hplp (sp??)... Just the pump.
I get my parts through a jobber, like Napa, but they deliver and send a bill charged to account... So I had them look for the FASS version, they could not get one, so they brought the Carter, I put it on without looking at the price, as I needed the truck tonight,,
OUCH $330 my cost, $400 retail... Now I wish I had ordered the FASS.. This is the third one in 300,000 kms. I just could not wait for the Fass to come in the mail..
Have they gone up that much, or did I get a different "version" of the pump?? Or my memory is going really bad and just forgot it was that much last time??

$330 for a Carter Pump? Something doesn't seem right to me at all. The last stock LP I purchased was close to $200 if I remember correctly. But I just recently purchased an Airtex (with relocation kit) for $220 from Vulcan....

And on the same site, the OEM replacement is $100 more.

Why?? Just because it has an OEM wire harness stamped on the bottom?? I think for $100 I can crimp on a couple gold plated wire connectors!!
The Worst part..... Truck wont start well again. If it sits for more than 10 min, it just cranks and cranks, and I can watch the fuel pressure while cranking fall to around 4psi. I have to bump the starter, and let out a little fuel from the water drain, and then while cranking, pump the peddle a little to get it to start... And of course its a long weekend and nothing open until Tuesday, and the wife is working as well, so I need the truck to get to work.... ARGG!! sorry for the rant.....
I just replaced the fuel filter in March, hard to believe it could be plugged already, I will try the measure into a pail today, and see if I am getting proper flow at the pump, I relocated the pump to just in front of the tank so its easier to work on at least...
This is this trucks 3rd pump. Should have done it right in the first place.. Of course at $100 a pop, hard to justify the $400 for the alternative.
Has anyone got over 400,000 km on the FASS or AirDog??
