Police Say Trio Pulled Off Metro East Candy Caper
Three men are accused of stealing thousands of dollars in merchandise from a Granite City warehouse- items that are high in calories.
At the end of July, Granite City Police began asking questions about a warehouse used by Hershey foods, when an inventory check showed $32,000 of missing candy.
Police say between May and July, a security guard allowed 2 employees to load pickup trucks full of candy. The stolen items included 5th Avenue bars, Almond Joy, Mounds, and Hershey's Kisses.
Davod Rosales is among the suspected candy bandits. Police say Rosales admitted taking the candy, but said they never sold the stolen merchandise. They simply enjoyed the treats and even shared them.
Police recovered 14 cases of chocolate from Rosales' garage in Bethalto, worth around $1000.
Rosales' neighbor Cecil Wade heard about a lot of chocolate in the neighborhood. "I didn't see anything but my wife saw a pickup truck with candy in the back-boxes full."
Rosales, his co-worker Robert Veith and security guard Donald Rose are charged with theft over $10,000 and burglary. If convicted, each faces 7 years in prison
