62/12 Turbo

Hey guy,
I will have the new head back on tomorrow and as long as my injector comes back from Don M I'll be ready to get the truck back on the road. My big concern is the turbo. As you can see I have WAY to much fuel and not near enough air. A good friend has a new 62/12 turbo and I can get it for a nice deal but wasn't sure if it would be the right turbo for my setup. So what do ya think? Will it be enough turbo? What's a better choice?
Thanks guys,
Topper

With smarty/tst/flux 2's and a single turbo, I'd say a silver 62 or better. I think you need to look at supporting about 625+

Thanks Soulezoo,
What is the difference between a 62/12 and a Silver 62?. I know that twins would be the better setup but that will have to wait until summer. I was also concidering one of the ball bearing turbos.
Thanks,
Topper

Topper, I just went from a 62/12 to 62/71/13ss.With the fuel you have the 62/12 is going to be to small. You need to be looking at a 62 or 64 with the larger exhaust wheel. The 71 from HTT or the 71 or 74 from II.

the silver is a 62/14/74 compared to the 62/12/65, Id go w/ the silver or HTT 62/13/71SS w/ as much fuel as your throwing at it

I would say at least a Super Phat Shaft 62/71/14. You need the big exhaust flow to get the heat out. Depending on how cheap you can get that turbo for, II and HTT offer upgrades for a couple hundred bucks.

Thanks for all your input!
I can pick up the 62/12 for around $900 . Should I buy it and send it back to the builder and have redone or should I just start out with a HTT or Super Phat Shaft?
Thanks again for all the help!

P.S. I should include the turbo is new. Never installed.

Which 62/12 is your friend selling and do you know the specs? You also mentioned it's new but asked if it should go back to be redone. Do you think something might be wrong with it? The price is very good but I've been calling HTT and II and they were pushing me towards the 62/13 and 62/14 and I just have a Juice w/Attitude.

Are you running a auto or stick? They were trying to talk me out of the 62/71/14 and I have a lot more fueling than you do. It all depends on who you talk to I guess.

Hey guys,
I don't have all the specs on the turbo but once I get the truck back together next week I will post more info. When I talked about sending it in to have it redone I ment to have them change it from a 62/12 to a 62/13.
Thanks,
Topper

That 62/12 is rated for about 500-550rwhp. I ran one and it was great but with all your other mods it will end up holding you back on the top end. I'd follow the advice of these guys and go bigger. Sending the one your friend has in and upgrading it will probably run the same or less as buying one the way you want it. I'd do that to help your friend get rid of his and then you both will be happy...

Dodgezilla,
That's the only reason that I would even consider using his 62/12. He is a great friend so if I can help him it's well worth the effort.

You can send it in and have it upgraded. I would call them first to see exactly what they can do. I would say with that 6-speed truck and Flux 2 sticks & mods you should go with a 64/71/13ss. I think the 62 compressor wheel will be too small.
