Question 4" Exhuast

Why are 2004.5 owners replacing their stock exhausts with 4in systems when the stock is 4in? I crawled under and measured from the turbo down pipe to the tip and it was 4in all the way.
This is a great site.

thanks for any input.

I think in most cases they're just replacing the muffler. Most 3rd Gen folks buying 4" exhausts have '03 or '04 models.

2004.5 Exhaust systems

Jmac,

Were almost there with the 2004.5 systems, probably have them available for shipping the middle to end of July. Call me if you have any questions, I don't want to post too much info as there could still be some minor changes and then there would be problems etc.

4" Exhaust

One reason for changing the exhaust is the stock system bends are poor compared to the mandrel bends of the Banks exhaust. Also the replacement of the muffler will help exhaust flow. We have also done a few 2004.5 trucks by placing an Aeroturbine just behind the cat and removing the muffler. This really gives a great sound and the benefits of lower EGTs.

If I had to do it again I would keep the stock piping and put on a free flowing straight through muffler. You can keep the cat or take it out if you like. I barely noticed any egt drop maybe 50 degrees and mileage stayed the same.

I think the best way to describe it is less air hiss from the tail pipe and more engine sound. It is of course a little louder than d the stock set up and certianly a deeper larger tone.
