Every horn I've ever worked on has been only one wire, positive; the horn itself is just grounded through chassis. Am I correct to assume that this is just a positive and negative wire? Or, is there more to it than that.

Mine were sounding weak, and now completely stopped working. Not sure if I have a clockspring problem or whatever, I'm just going to test these horns on a battery and check the wires to see if I'm getting the right voltage, and go from there. Check the fuses & relay too here shortly.


Noticed one horn is 400Hz, one is 500Hz. Maybe I'll get one LO, and one HI horn for the time being until I can afford an airhorn.

 

Yeah, I know Chrysler has that oddball horn setup. Pretty sure it's hot and ground. I pit 6 horns on a Plymouth I had once, wow was that loud, but you could see the ammeter drop too.

 

Verified -- Yep one hot one ground. Replacement horns have the option of spade ground or lug ground via provided wire from spade to lug if required.

Polarity didn't matter.

I got the "Low pitch" horn, still sounds like a chicks horn. I guess I need to start saving for a real one.

 

I agree! I hate that. I'm embarrassed to use the freakin horn around people. I've got this huge truck and this wimpy little horn. Time for airhorns I guess...

For the price they are super loud and easily wire to the stock system using stock relay.
Not quite the big rig sound but loud enough to scare people on the street. And the price is unbeatable!!

I have one and my neighbors hate me for it!!

Has anyone ever tried those Air Horn kits from Canadian Tire, or a place like that. They use the 12 volt hook up(im guessing the wires that are already there) and the horns are like 6 inches in length roughly. Just wondering what they sound like, etc. Cause they arnt that expensive, and we could use them just until we get a bigger set up.

i replaced mine with a wolo bad boy. yea I just used the two wires from one side, crimped some spade connectors on an bolted it up under there.

sounds like an air horn, but it's not that loud. not bad though for $40.

It's a compressor and horn in one unit.

 

I went to a boat supply store and bought a set of big boat electric horns that are stainless steel and look like regular air horns. The guy had two different sets and blasted each to let me make my decision. The louder Ongaro brand were awesome, bought them immediately and mounted them below the radiator. Can you tell I love them !!! I got mine for $150.00 at WV Marine. The are on the web as an ebay store.

 

go to the junk yard and get the horns off a old chevy like 80's monte carlo or el camino, they sound good. and make sure to get both horns and also cut about a foot or two of the wires to have enough because you will have to splice it in, it should only take about 5 minutes

 

 

I have a pair of Grover air horns mounted on the roof, and a pull chain valve over my right shoulder. But when I don't want LOUD I have replaced my sickly Dodge horns with ones out of an 85 Caddy. By the way, if you bust the horn fuse that is under the hood on your 97, the A/C won't work.
