03 died while cruising
driving normally @ 40mph for about 10 min and all of a sudden it dies. figured it was my filter mounted lift pump so i went a replaced it with my back up but still doesn't run. the only codes showing are C Codes - AA, A7, and AC. checked the crank angle sensor and looks good. engine turns over and all but no sign of trying to start. i recalibrated the ECM to stock with the smarty jr but still no luck.
the C Codes read
A7 VIN checksum error.
AA PCM messages not received.
AC ABS messages not received.
could it be a blown fuse that's preventing it to run? is there another fuse box besides the one on the driver side engine bay? if not i've checked it all and it looks good. maybe its a bad FCA?

my dad has benn having serious problems with his 03. one day it just died. then got it running. found out a cam sensor went bad. then he drove 5 hours one way. then on the way home it was blowing smoke and could only go 30 mph. went back to the shop. no codes, all pumps are fine. come to find out wires were rubbing on the frame. so he was driving home then it just died again.
he is on the verge of buying a 2011 powerstroke.

how did he determine the crank sensor went out? fault code?
do you know which side of the frame the wires were rubbing at?
btw: i've already taken the precaution of ziptieng the common wire that rubs thru under the alternator/ac compressor area.

found this..

is it my smarty that's causing the issue with the C Codes and preventing it to run?

A4 08 - No idea
A7 15 - VIN checksum error ( Smarty related on a 305/555 motor )
AA 15 - PCM mesage not received ( also smarty related )
B8 01 - No idea
00 00 - Done all diagnostic trouble codes have been displayed
Rip112 do it again, and check A4, B8. The last two numbers in the code are key starts. It goes up to 99. The AA and A7 are smarty and if you don't change the program will clear after 99.

it never did throw a code thats why they had trouble finding it. and the exact location where it was rubbing i guess it was somewhere in the engine compartment. and his truck is bone stock, the only add on is a jacobs exhaust brake. no chip no programmer, no nothing
