01 New to me...
01 New to me...
I just bought an 2001 Dodge 2500, I have a couple questions for the Guru's or just those who have opinions. I'm new to diesel's but want to know what performance parts to stay away from and what I should look into. I already know about intake and exhaust to help it breath easier, but what computer chips and modules are good for stock with mild towing? I only plan on towing about 6000# max for when I'm taking my Jeep to wheeling areas. If it is going to be a daily driver that I give a little too much gas to sometimes what should I look into? Thanks in advance.

First off, welcome to the site.
Please be sure to fill out your sig so we know more about your truck.
Is it an automatic, 5speed, or 6speed?
Gauges (boost, pyro, fuel pressure) are a must. Some with automatics like a tranny temp gauge. I had an Edge EZ and RV275's in my 2001 and it was plenty for me, but you may want to look into the Edge Comp as well since it has adjustable power settings. Mine was a 6speed, and I upgraded the clutch before I did anything else, the stock clutch would probably have held the power at least for a little while.
In my opinion though, the automatics in these truck are their achilles heel. If I owned a Dodge Automatic, I wouldn't add any power to it at all without upgrading the tranny first. They will hold a little extra power, how much? No one seems to know... some last a while, some die quickly.
Upgrading the fuel system is also a good idea.

For towing I would recommend the Smarty....

Fun to play with and different settings for different conditions.
If an Automatic... your limited to adding about 60-70 hp, If your tranny is healthy.
If a 5 or 6 speed, a Smarty and some small to medium injectors make for a great combo before you need to do clutch work!
But...as stated...Gauges first!!
Good Luck....and Also... Welcome!

Thanks for the replies, sorry I didn't get back sooner. I staright piped it, just because it sounds better. I notice I get really bad gas mileage when I have the windows down or am driving by a wall on the passenger side for some reason

Welcome to the site. I am kind of new here too. These guys are awesome, always ready to help. First thing to do is (and dont ask me why I know this) is get a fuel pressure gage and a fuel pump. It just may save your Injection pump.
