CB radio questions

I'm looking to mount a CB radio in my 06 Ram. Need ideas on where to mount the radio and where to mount the antenna.

One thing to consider...it's a 6spd.

There are some threads with pics here on this site, do a search, you'll find them.

I picked up a center console out of an auto and got rid of my jump seat. I modded it by putting a flat plate on the face of the console where the floor console would have attached, mounted my CB there.

I have seen a couple mounted overhead, those mountings were accomplished by making a mounting with flat stock that ran from the rear area of the overhead front light back to the center reinforcement beam, they had to drop the headliner to put the flat stock in behind the headliner, pop riveted that flat stock at both ends.

I mounted my antenna through the roof at my rear overhead interior light. Dropped the light and related pieces down, drilled through the roof about an inch forward of the light assy, just forward enough to get the fixture mounting back into place. Then ran the coax down the b-pillar and under the carpet at the door sill over to where the radio is mounted. I am running a Wilson 1K roof mount antenna. Where it is located it is an excellent ground plane.

Some have mounted their radios along side the floor cupholder on the pass side, but with a stick that is pretty ackward as far as using the mic, and seeing the radio itself for channel id or whatever is a pita. Some have mounted their radio on the drivers side of the cupholder as well.

There are mounting brackets available, check them out at Genos Garage, but as I understand it, they don't work well with a stick.

If you have a smaller unit you could use the space under the radio but there isn't much space behind it to mount wires and the sound can suck if the speaker is on the bottom. I am planning on mounting mine on the dash before to long. Another option is get a hand held unit. Technology advances have made them great and you can use some cell phone mounts to hold them. It is a PITA either way with a stick.
