Transmission question, having an issue when cold

Question for you guys,

I have a Goerend trans on my 2004.5 with triple disk TC. Miles to date are 286k, with 200k miles on the Goerend.

Recently I am having a issue when the truck is cold and has been sitting while at work (8-10 hours). When I start the truck and put the truck in drive the trans doesn't want to move the truck like it should. The rpm's are higher than expected almost like the trans is slipping or the TC isn't getting enough pressure. Has anyone had this issue in the past? Thoughts on what might be causing this?

I seem to recall that people reported the same thing if the truck was parked on a hill, nose up. The TC drained, and didn't fill when the trans is in park, only in drive.

When checking fluid they want you to put the transmission in N. This allows the pump to start pumping fluid thru the system. On all my old Mopars over the years I always fire up the engine and then put the transmission in N for a short bit to pre lube the transmission. Maybe N for 30 seconds or a minute. Might try this and see if that helps. With 200k on the transmission there may be something wore a little bit allowing the tork conv to drain while sitting and by putting it in N will allow the fluid to start moving thru the transmission system. In the summer under hot or extreme conditions it doesn't hurt to do this before shutting off the truck to allow the fluid to pump thru the system and cool down some.

i have the same or similar problem , when its cold it will not go into gear or just revs without going anywhere for about 5 mins, i did a tranny deep pan swap put new fluid and filter still the same thing , i also ck the fluid while in neutral, i also am reaching 200k on my 07 5.9 . i do have tp put it in neutral and it goes quicker , but do this mean the bands or something need tightening ? thanks in advance

U have a back flow valve that lets tc drain back, I start mine, put in dr. then rev a few times, U will feel it engage, then put in gear of choice, I have been doing this for years no other problems, so learn to live with it, or pay a shop to clean and repair valve. normally 1 to 2 hundred bucks;

Seen this topic a couple times.

The fix for this appears to be putting it in neutral for a minute or to so the pump kicks in and refills the TC.

Someone posts a few years ago there's a way to perma-fix this, I think it was a valve body mod but it's been so long I honestly can't remember.
