Sticking gear shift on 48re getting worse
Can't find the threads on this, but someone said it was maybe in the VB that was causing this (even said there was a tsb maybe). Don't think its the parking pawl because it does it on level ground all the time. It's getting to the point it feels like I'm going to snap the lever arm off the column.

I wrote about this problem with my 06 several months ago. They replaced the valve body and now it shifts perfectly. I'm surprised your dealer doesn't know anything about this. You might try the service dept at my dealer: Woodhouse Chrysler, 1-800-889-1893. If that doesn't work send me a PM and I'll contact them.
The repair was delayed about two weeks as the part was on national backorder. Your dealer should know about this.

There's a TSB on the stutter shift when it can't decide between 1 and 2 on light throttle @ slow speeds. I had the problem, and the TSB cured it.

I reread your post, and this doesn't sound like the problem you're describing.
What exactly is it doing?

I was talking about getting the tranny out of Park. Rjjr, was your VB replacement a tsb or just a warranty job? What parts of the VB did they replace? Thanks

Is this your problem:
Hard to get out of park and Dodge 45- 46-47 -48 tranny. Did it ever occur that with weight of vehicle on hill it will be difficult to move lever from Park position. Try uning park brake to hold vehicle and then put in park. On start up shift out of park before releasing park brake.

My truck started doing this a couple days ago. It's a bit difficult to get out of park, like the lock isn't fully releasing. And makes a noise pulling it down when it didn't before (kind of a clunk, I guess). It doesn't feel like it's in the tranny, more like it's in the steering column.

Someone just posted this problem with another thread. Said to check for a "white sliding plastic clip" of some kind under the dash near the steering column, and make some sort of adjustment to it by sliding it one way or another. Not real sure what he's talking about but I'll check it out soon and see if I can find the problem. Had my bezel/cover off to work on my multi switch this summer and looked for the problem then but couldn't find anything to adjust. I agree it feels more like its in the column than in the tranny though.

My truck has been doing this since day 1. It makes a clicking noise from the steering column. Sometimes all I have to do is touch the shifter and it makes this noise. Seems like it does it more in the summer than the winter. I think is has something to do with the column lock. Is there an emergency lock release that can release the shifter if needed. I know most floor mounted shifters have them. Mines definitely not in the tranny, it's in the steering column.

I had my truck lock in park and thought I was going to break the shift lever. This was about a month after I had the trans rebuilt. It ended up locking up in my drive way luckily and I had to pull the valve body and take it to Virgina. The problem ended up being the rooster comb had raised metal in the park position and it chewed up the ball it rode against. When the ball gets in the right position it wouldn't shift out of park, with the lever. I found out afterward that you can shift it out of park you just have to have one person shift the lever and one under the truck to hit the lever on the trans with a hammer if you get stuck in an emergency away from home. The only reason you feel it so much in park is because the park detent is a lot steeper than the rest of the gears.
My trans guy timinva had never seen it before and reworked the comb and put a new ball in it and I haven't had any problems since.
The rooster comb is a lot harder than the ball bearing it rides against and took awhile to rework the edge of it.

I've had no problem with shifting out of park but I do have a stiff throttle from time to time during light accel. at low speeds followed by a downshift into second. Gets very stiff but you can push through it if you jam the throttle.

Here's a pic. of the "clip" location under the steering column (to be adjusted) sent to me by Mpracehemi. Not sure if this will be the fix or not, but I'll post it in case someone else wants to try it. Now that I think about it, I remember reading in a post quite awhile back about the rooster comb having to be filed and worked down to make it smoother. Zuki Dan, is this a big job, or can the average wrench give it a shot? Does the VB have to be removed?

If anyone tries this and it doesn't work, let me know so I won't keep telling this to someone else.
