Where is the third gear synchro in the case eg. front to back and top to bottom?

ps - I am chasing a hunch on my crappy third gear shifts, I park on a steep hill every night and the first shift in the morning is always nice a smooth so I am thinking that synchro might be getting more or less fluid than normal causing the smooth shift.
