need g56 clutch suggestions

Just installed a south bend 3250SDD in my 06 3500 4x4, dont like it at all. pedal is too stiff, bad growl in 4th and 5th between 1000-1500rpms, and jerks from a start and bucks in reverse with a trailer. I need a suggestion on which clutch to swap to, i need it to feel like stock but not slip, this truck weighs 11,600lbs, works every day and has several different drivers, including my wife who cant hardly push in the pedal now. I know everybody on here praises these clutches saying thats just how heavy duty clutches are supposed to feel, but i own a fleet of semi's and haul oversize loads every day and can assure you my kenworths are way less annoying to drive than my dodge is now. My only mods are an edge juice on level 2, but i pull almost daily with this truck, and if i cant back up a trailer without it bucking, what good is it to me, thanks in advance - Brynn

Know what you mean. The DD has some annoying habits, but I know it will hold whatever I can throw at it. I didn't really notice the pedal being much harder.

I wonder if you would be better off with the Con O in your case since you don't have high HP. I did a Con OFE in a customer's truck that tows heavy, but stock HP. She has no issues with the extra pedal effort.

Raising RPM sightly really helps mine smooth out during engagement. Took a little time to get used to, but it helped.

We spoke last Friday and as I said then the symptoms your are describing are not normal for this clutch. especially the hard pedal. Something has to be wrong. It will have to be removed and pictures taken. I will bet something was put together wrong. You also told me that not only does the truck way 11,600 lbs but you pull 25,000 lbs, so you are tipping the scales at 36,000+ and I am afraid you will beat the snot out of a single disc. But, it will act more like a stock clutch.

^^^^ Agreed. If ppl can pull that much weight on a stock truck with stock clutch, I don't see any reason an OFE single disc wouldnt work. It will have considerably better matters.

Just keep in mind there WILL be more noise associated with the removal of the dual mass flywheel, but its for a good reason, you will get better service out of your g56.

I know what you mean about the bucking in reverse. I have to put mine in 4 lo to remedy that. Luckily I don't pull every day with it. If I had it to do over I may would have gotten the con ofe.

36k is a pretty healthy weight to lug, can't comment on that, but I don't believe it should be harder on it than throwing some hp at the truck.
The Con OFE is great in mine, holds a Crazy Larry tune no problem, no smell, even on a little heel/toe burnout.
Wife drives the truck daily and says the clutch feels the same as stock.
You got low range for backing the big trailer up?

My truck weighs 9K and I pull a little more then you do also on a routine basis. And I have a SB DD3600
Fluid damper took out a lot of the growl
I put my truck in low range when I back up
I have tried a so called upgraded single disk and it was extremely jerky compared to my DD.

Hey guys, not trying to give south bend a bad rap, i pulled the tranny out saturday and checked everything, even removed the little washer behind the pivot ball that we had missed, made the pedal much better...Ive been researching this kind of clutch and i think these manners are just the nature of the beast, it holds like a champ, but with all of the different drivers i have i hate to be snapping ujoints pulling these loads daily, and its all in-town pulling so a bunch of start and stop. Again i dont want to say anything bad about the product, seems high quality, just not working in my application and i think i might just need an organic disc and would like suggestions, thanks

The South Bend Con OFE is a single disc, with one facing as a high performance organic material, the other facing is a feramic material, rated to 450hp/1000ft/lb. This would be the best replacement IMO.

I was told by one other person that the SB single disk is more jerky than a DD, coincidentally it was the guy who sold me my clutch and is a pretty respectable diesel mech.
I still went with the single disk OFE and it is smooth. COuld feather it out in 3rd or 4th gear form a stop if I wanted to.
Not doubting your experience, just realting mine.

See I have the SB OFE and mine is pretty jerky sometimes and other times it is smooth. I still love it cause the rattly DMF is gone and it holds great, just a little embarrassing sometimes when it gets grabby.......

Did it work out? I'm looking at doing my clutch here soon (slipping in 5th), I run a mild tune and that's about it. I do pull but not your loads. PM me if you want to sell that DD cheap
