Transmission Indecision
My '99 2500 quad recently started being indecisive which gear it wants to be in while traveling any where from 30 - 65 mph... it seems to waffle between gears, almost as though the 4th gear lockup or overdirve isn't holding. This is usually when I'm rolling along with a gradual acceleration or at highway speeds when I get to climbing grades or maintianing speed. I see from some research on this forum an issue about the APPS and the TPS...and bad grounds and so forth. Having not had any problems with the truck for several years now, none of the battery or alternator issues could be at play here (I think) because I haven't changed anything... What is the fastest way to find out if I'm looking at a rebuild or a reprogramming issue?

Start by cleaning the terminals and see what happens.
A lot of corrosion on the grounds can happen in 2 years, add in the previous 6 years before you owned it.
Check them out, clean where needed, tighten where needed, etc.
Most people have good success in just doing the above.

TexMex
TexMex...
I found in doing a search on this site (which is fantastic) under the keyword "transmission" there is a lot of data on the sensors, ground problems and restting the ECM that should be tried before going to a tranny shop...
Good luck...I'm going to try these fixes this weekend.

APPS & Corrosion
Tex...
It worked!!!
Today I took both battery terminal sets apart and cleaned up what little corrosion was on them, coated them with dielectric grease then put them back together and reset the APPS. Now the truck runs perfect again.
Just though you'd want to know.

Thats all you did man I am going to do the same thing. My car broke down so I have to drive my truck more right now. the only reason i drive a car is that my truck is to tall to fit in the parking garage.

Bad News
It' at it again...real bad now...and nothing seems to be fixing the problem.
Won't decide which gear to be in when rolling along a 40 - 45 mph or higher.

Mine does the same thing the above posters does, I clean the terminals, works fine for maybe a day or two, then will go in and out of lockup over and over, and with a tight converter like mine, its almost like whiplash sometimes anyone know what else to look for? I haven't put any grease on the terminals, I used to work at an auto parts store and we never told anyone to do that, just use a wire brush and spray anti corrosion on them, and I've done that to both batteries, no good results.
