No alternator, truck ran hot!!

2001 HO 6 speed. Last night on the way home from the rodeo the "check gauges" light came on. Alternator was showing no charge with the arrow all the way to the left. Truck also ran very hot. Drove about 15 miles to the house and the lights never dimmed and all the accessories ran strong. The belt is intact and looks good. Water pump and alternator go out at the same time????? It has given me no warning. No hard starts, no belt noises, etc. It has dumped coolent the last couple of days, but I attributed that to our hot weather. Never ran hot before. Any advice before I tear it all apart??

You may just have a bad electrical connection. Check battery terminals and alll grounds. Have batteries tested individually. Check voltage at both batteries. should be same.
Check coolant level cold. Rad should be full.
If low, check for leaks and wetness under water pump housing.

Maybe 2 seperate issues.

For the heating issue, have you checked to see if the radiator is plugged on the oustide with oil & dirt between the CAC and the radiator core or the back side of the radiator?

Did the truck actually appear to be hot? Could you be having a dash grounding issue causing both gauges to read incorrectly?

It was only one problem! The water pump died and allowed a lot of coolant to run out on the tensioner, which caused the belt to slip. Replaced the pump, belt and coolant and all is well. I'd like to kick whoever designed the shroud right square in the rectal orifice. Once I got it out of the way everything went smoothly! Thanks for all your guidance! You guys are awesome.

LOL, you can usually tell when the pump dies on these..... yours must have dumped pretty quickly.

We used to have the same issue on the LT1 Caprices...... pump would wee on the serp belt and usually without prior warning.

Glad you got her figured out!
