I see. It was just my not so good way of saying that no windshield here would get you pulled over fast. As far as I know, we have never executed anyone for a civil traffic violation, although I am sure that it has been introduced in our legislature...Mark

Yet you can register a Rhino or Ranger or Big Red and run it up and down the highway?

Yup, but don't forget the golf carts. We have a bunch of nuts running this state. It is getting better, but for a while all you had to be was be anti-immigration and the voters elected you, it didn't matter what else you did. We used to have minimum speed limits on the freeway, but they did away with that. You can drive 30 mph in the fast lane here, when everybody else is going 85, it's nuts. I did not like the speed cameras, but I have to admit that the people drove a lot safer. Since they removed them, the people have sprung back and drive even faster now. You take your life into your hands driving here. They arrested over 600 people for dui over the holiday, even after all the publicity about the saturation patrols and check points, it's the wild, wild, idiot west out here. You have to take a test at 16 to get a drivers license that is good for 25 years, but any non-felon can carry a concealed weapon without taking any classes on how to use it. When I was working for the FD, we called all this job security...Mark

NJT - you have a spare '67 B-cuda rear window?
Don't let that get scrapped or broken.

Nice work on keeping the rust at bay!

Thanks Mr. Bill.

Just got the truck back today, and it came out really nice. I was really surprised and even more surprised to find out that they used all dupont products on the finish. It's not completely done, as they have to "color sand" the finished product and give it it's first wax (all included). They won't touch it until I put it back together, as the wax stuff gets everywhere.

I spent about an hour cleaning the dust out of the truck, even though they used compressed air in there, it was all over the place. I used my handy leaf blower, and wallah... dust was gone except for the residue left behind. Will clean that up this weekend, and hopefully the windshield guy can finish up the work on Monday.

Here are a few shots. The rubber weatherstrip from chrysler actually came a little long. I would have expected it to be custom fit, but I guess it fits elsewhere on other vehicles

I would have been happy with it the way it is, but they're determined to finish the job as they see fit.

Overall, it's extremely well done... Not perfect, by any means, but I'm guaranteed that NO RUST will ever come back as they pretty much sanded it down to bare metal again.....

BTW... To make the rain gutters almost rust proof ? POR15 is applied, sanded, then sealed with a sanding sealer of some sort..

Very happy when it's all put back together... by monday, I hope.

Thanks. I think it came out really nice because I gave them the incentive by prepping the truck for them before I dropped it off. It's a lot easier not having to deal with trim, glass, mirrors, grilles, etc. They were happier just doing what they do best.

BTW..... when he handed me the bill, I was charged $970.00 if I paid cash. I gave them a thousand, and bought a 24 pack of coors light (what they wanted) and I still walked away a winner, as my bill was produced showing what the real current rate would have been been $2033 (with tax), which is a write off for the business. I bargained a deal where I would plow their lot for the season to make up for the balance between the two numbers....

So, not only did I get a good deal with the job, but I have another commercial lot to keep clear of snow for the 2013/14 season, albeit at a reduced rate. He only wants me to plow it twice, but I figured, I'd do the season, since my larger job is about 1/2 mile away that I do every year, and he's going to repaint my toyota in the spring... same deal, where I remove everything and drop it off.

BTW... Look at the detail they did where it met the stripe. I was floored at how well it actually came out. These guys really did a great job.

I did the same thing when I got the front windshield done in the crewcab. I drove it about 20 minutes to the glass shop. Was quite the experience for a cool November morning....

But like you said the heat, smells and noise made for quite a pleasant drive.

Truck is back together except for the front windshield, as I'm waiting for an experienced glazier to help me do so. Don't want to break the glass the first time I watch it being installed by me...

I can completely understand WHY the cost to restore a vehicle is so much. They body shop had the truck for 4-5 days. So far, I put 100 hours or so into the removal, cleaning, derusting, painting, and re-assembly of the truck. It makes complete sense as to why restorations are in the $50k area, as the labor is so incredibly intensive.

Still waiting on the glass guy to call me back....

I disassembled the frame, cleaned every part, reassembled and silicone sealed the glass to prevent water from entering between the frame, as the original seals are not completely water tight. The seal that installs it in the truck is new, although I had to use the original insert locking strip that I had. Either way, it's now water tight.

All the seals have been replaced except for the door seal where it meets the cab. I'll do that one later...

The small triangle glass seals were a real PITA. I know Mark did his, and made it look easy, but they really weren't that easy for me to do. There is a design difference from the older windows to ours, and it's where the upper hinge of the glass meets the window. This design difference forces me to fill that area with a black silicone caulk to prevent water infiltration. It really ticked me off to see that they changed the design with no real apparent reason, and ultimately discontinued the part. Anyway, these work, you just have to modify them slightly to do so..

While I was there cleaning out the cab, I noticed my floor mat was NG, so I pulled it out. I found RUST

After wire wheeling the rust out, I used my Jasco Prep and prime to stop the rust in it's tracks...... for a little while anyway.... That orange stuff is the original body filler / seam sealer they used from the factory. By morning the surfaces are nice and clean to be primed and painted. I think this time, I'm going to Cold Galvanize the surface before priming to make it last a little longer. Either way, I'm still out a few days till I can get back in her and cruise again...
