hey fellas, looks like i am going to build my own transfer tank for the back of ol red if i cant find one for CHEAP, i think i can get the steel for free.
was thinking 18' x 18' x 48' so it will be pretty close to 67 gallons
reason is, so i can stock up on JET A when at home, and other buddy's offer to fuel me up when in town.
any tips? the steel has slight surface rust, so i will grind that off. does the inside need to be sealed with something?
i will be doing this on the "cheap" and it will not be a permanent fixture to my bed, just something to tote fuel around until its all used up.
thanx,
Max

I wouldn't make one out of steel - at least not on purpose... and especially not rusty at that...
You can buy 55 gallon plastic drums very cheap - strap a bunch of those in the bed with a redneck fuel transfer system (just reach through the beer window and unscrew the caps to gravity-feed the filler tube!

You could just gravity feed the fuel right into your filler tube.... with a siphon hose.

.....make only out of alum or plastic....stainless if you can come up with the $$$ for it! Hope you can weld good or have a good welder....i helped with a tank and chased leaks on seams that otherwise looked good for 5 days..........
Or tin lined metal Drums. We sell them used for $5.00 each so we don't have to pay to have them hauled off.. Around here, people use them as burn barrels. Just need to be cleaned out... if they had additives in them. Not even that ...if base oils!
