TXDTR #8: October Meet
Going to do it after your drive back north or after driving it around down there? I suppose I could give a guys back a break and help him retorque tomorrow.... Providing I could retorque mine as well!!
Getting my truck back on the road tomorrow! So I don't have to repeat myself, here is the story.
After 5 yrs, my firerings failed. Small piece from #3 ring and a 1" piece of #4 ring broke off and bounced around inside the cylinders. Many small craters and two small chips off the piston tops resulted. Also had serious cracks in the head on valve seats and injector ports, probably from the same debris.
No damage to cylinder walls!!! Did minor smoothing to piston tops... to prevent carbon build up and bgt a new head ($1200.00). Had it decked and O-ringed and used a Marine, .020 over gasket.
Also turned out my top turbo was leaking at the bearing seal and the compressor blades were chewed up badly. Replaced w/ new turbos. This problem was self induced - used a racing filter that should only have been used at the track. Expensive lesson learned too late. With all the dirt roads I drive.... just let too much 'stuff' through. Going back to the PRO Guard 7 (full time) that comes with the BD Twins.
I got 5 years, some serious street playing and 223 1/4 mile passes out of my setup before any trouble (oh yeah, and one sled pull).
Guess I did alright...especially since my Firering job was suspect from the beginning... as I have probably told everyone before.
Traded Mach 6's for Mach 4's. Daily drivability on an automatic is better w/ 4's, and I never did get closr to the added 70 hp from the 6's.
With the Adrenaline and H20/meth I should still be over 550 hp........... and good to go for the next five years.

Rowland....glad to hear you are up and running again!!!

..
Decided to test out the overloads a little. This is where some air bags might come in handy....and some heavier rated tires...
The pallet......supposedly weighs 2800lbs.....plus whatever the sand weighed. Prob half a yard or so in the bed...under the pallet.
Im expanding my back patio....and plan to invite ya'll over for a GTG here before to long. New Grill and firepit will be up and running....

Let me know when the brake in party will be.......
You said turbine erection.
... guess that makes me 6!
Glad you got your baby back, RJ!
Must've been that sled pull that KO'd it...
p.s. that was the 1st thing I said to Robert, Dan - "
Why didn't you use a tarp?"

Yeah, pretty dirty there....after a month of no wash....and several rains. Not to mention....the sand and stuff i've been carrying around. It has since been washed though.....el presidente. Ironically...my under hood engine compartment is very clean
....cause I just hit it with the simple green not long ago.
To Mike and Dan......no argument from me on the tarp.....I just didn't have one handy when I needed the load and happened by the sand/stone place.
Brian....if you park your truck for 2 years....ill catch ya on miles...
. I've actually considered getting another vehicle.....just not sure what I want. Thought about a Jeep...thought about a TDI.....or just a good used car as a second vehicle. Not really to commute in...but just to run to the store etc. I just don't know but im keeping my eyes open if the RIGHT deal comes along. It will have to be inexpensive....and whatever I put in it....I want to know I can get ALMOST or ALL of it back at any time...
