Tx #8 June Meet
Charlie, im here and I told Colorado "hi from Charlie", for ya...LOL.
Max, I did see a sign pointing toward Tucamcari. Time was definately a factor though....we had to keep moving and try to get here at a decent hour today (Sat.) We stopped at Childress overnight for a few hours of shuteye. We went up through Amarillo thru Dumas and into the desolate unknown "no mans land" between there and Raton, NM.
. Glad I filled up before that little run!
THERE IS NOTHING THERE EXCEPT DESOLATE NOTHING for about 150-200 miles!
My truck and toyhauler loaded to the gills (atvs, water, gen, gasoline) weighs in at 19,500lbs and my truck felt it today for sure. I am still running Smarty on level 9 and MP8 on 100 percent like I always do.....and it definately got smokey and hotter at elevation. McKinney is at 597 feet........Raton is like 7000+.
The truck did great I just kept my eye on the egt gauge and had to run with overdrive locked out for most of the elevated climbs. 65 is not a good speed for my truck......which is where most of roads seemed to be. It's a little to fast in 3rd gear.........running 2400-2600 rpms.......and to slow in 4th at 1500-1600rpms. If I can run 70+ it is much better with my 35'' tires. Coming home will be fine as it will mostly be downhill.
Anyway we made it. It's beautiful up here like I knew it would be. I have about 4 or 5 different ATV trails we hope to ride.....and will be white water rafting one day. The other days will be local stuff....Royal Gorge...driving Pike's Peak etc. Should be fun. My internet service up here is spotty....so I will drop in a little if I can. Yall have a great week!

Glad you got there OK. Consider renting wetsuits, or at least "dry tops" for the rafting. That water is nothing but melted snow! Smoke? Wait until you go up Pikes Peak, even without the trailer...........
I made it one time to the last 200 yds of cutbacks but turned around...felt like my paint job was getting sand blasted.
Coming down steep parts with DTT in 2nd works great! Don't even need brakes.

Hope you get to the top.

Thanks Max and ya its a long trip but we will see when we are coming through and I will let you know

Moomba makes a GREAT wake boarding boat. congrats. . I like the gaurd dogs too. that will keep them hoodlums away. . . .
Boats are great, BUT ALOT of work. . . that Moomba is new enough it will not be a money pit for many many years. .
