Are you contemplating a Dually?

We just got back from a trip down to the Kentucky Horse Park, it was the first time I had a decent run towing our fifth wheel with our 03 Dually. I towed the same fifth with an 02, 2500 quad cab short bed.

If anyone is considering a Dually for towing I would say it is the only way to go. My wife got tired of hearing me say how much I liked this truck. It was a solid and stable ride, a real pleasure to drive. There was no side to side wandering, no fighting with the wheel to steer a straight course, and the truck just felt "safe". I liked our 2500 but when I was towing, driving it felt like work, if I took my eyes off the road for a second I was changing lanes.

All you Dually owners already know this but I just had the urge to post a thread for anyone who has a decision to make.

Go with the Dual rear wheels.....you won't be sorry.......

I'm VERY glad to hear this. We were coming back from AZ this winter towing the 5ver with my 01 and the wind beat us to pieces. In fact, we had to lay over two days in southern NM because of high wind warnings. As we were sitting in the RV park I got to thinking (always gets me in trouble) how nice a dually would be.

So got the new 06 dually a week ago. I haven't towed with it yet but glad to hear my decision to get the dually was sound

I used to pull with a 2500 SRW, V10. I always thought the trailer was trying to push the rear end of the truck around on a tight curve like a cloverleaf ramp. Since I switched to the dually, I feel much more in control. The trailer goes where the truck wants it to go, not where it wants to go. As long as we are fulltimers in this big fiver, I will have a dually.

Yep, a dually is certainly the preferred choice for towing a heavy 5th wheel. I'm on my second one.

I once towed 70 MPH with a 30 MPH cross wind for 250 miles and had no problems with our dually and the camper in my signature. I know it was stupid and will not tow that fast again but circumstances had faith that day.

I joined the dually club last July. Traded my 01 3/4 ton ctd for the rig in my sig & gallery & have had no regrets.

My I say wheel base is just as important as having the extra wheels. I to also tow daily for my company and we have a 03 dually with a v-10 and an 05 2500 Cummins 4door with 8ft bed. I feel much more safe in the Cummins than the Dually. The short wheel base is not designed for extreme towing, they are more for "SPORT" or oversized grocery getters

Whether you're towing a travel trailer or 5th wheel you can not beat the stability of a dually. Plus the extra capacity for pin weight, is just icing on the cake

Arrow My Dodge Dually

I am so happy with my Dodge Dually purchase, too. I have 30,000 miles on it now and 10,000 miles of that was pulling my 35' Cardinal fifth wheel. There have been no issues with my dually or my 5ver.

This is my first dually and I am loving it.

Same goes for hauling heavy cargo in the bed too. I used to have a heavy slide in (before the toy hauler 5er) that I carried in a long bed '95 2500 V10 with airbags. Total improvement in ride and handling with the dually....I'd never go back. Plus they look much more like a truck imo

And to add more icing to the cake , you get to buy 6 tires instead of only four when you need tires.
Only way to go towing heavy.

true, but it takes longer for the tires to wear out, especially on rear, especially if rotated regularly

i put a new set of General Ameritracs on 22,000 miles ago (116.00 each with full road hazard). have rotated them 3 times and have used 1/3 of the tread.
That mileage is nearly all interstate miles with a Heavy goosneck in tow.
