I need to haul a rotary mower 13ft wide from MN to NE. Do I need a pilot car ?

 

Probably not. Check with your local highway dept. If you have an oversized load, you may have restricted hours that you can drive. You'll probably just need a red flag on the roadside or a yellow Oversize Load banner on the back. It also depends on the roads/highways you are going to drive, ie. single lane, divided, etc.

 

usally not need with farm mach. esp. if you have farm plates

 

You better check, in texas farm plates cover the load but you cant go farther than 150 miles from the home, better safe than sorry.

 

check with each states DOT they will be able to tell you i believe here its anything over 14ft, they will have certain routes and times you can travel. get straight from the DOT not from hearsay because if you have what they say to do in writing its easier to prove that you where following the law each state is different so check with each one that you are going thru

 

'RICH' got it correct. Check with the DOT for each state that you will be travelling through - each one is different in some respect. They mostly require a wide load sign on the back AND front of the rig and flags on each corner of the trailer, if you are wider than 102". In Canada, you need a pilot car after 12' - depending on where you're travelling - single or double lane hwy. I'm not certain about the various states in the USA.
