What is it ? Gooseneck ? 5th? either ?

I bought my 03 about a month or so ago. I was under it today and noticed that there is part of a hitch under the bed. I am thinking it is part of a goosneck, but don't know for sure. There are two bars (like angle iron) that run from framerail to framerail (on top) about 8 or 10 inches apart and have holes in them. The bed is new so there is no telltale there. I have a pic that I can upload, but have no idea how to post it. I am used to the "browse" button.
Can someone tell me if this sounds like a gooseneck hitch. Thanks, Dan

I don't know what a gooseneck sounds like. Do they honk?

For instructions on how to post images go here:

Or you can upload the image to your gallery and wait until the webmaster approves it.

I give up. If anybody has an idea if this is even part of a hitch, let me know. I am pretty sure it is because the guy I bought the truck off of has 2 other Dodges and an F550 that he hauls trailers with. He told me that he only hauled his boat and race trailers with this truck, but I believe the guy about as much as any other person trying to sell something.

It is a hitch, but was hoping to see the pics for a more exact answer. It could be the rails for either a goose or 5th. You said the bed was new. Any more info on the old bed? Since it had a hitch of some sort, the bed would maybe give more of an answer.

Still not a worry, just an opportunity to put your own in it.

Here is the short story. The truck I bought was in an accident. He rearended a Suburban while hauling a race car trailer. The "only items replaced" were the grill, headlights, bumper, and hood. Also the AC unit came off the roof of the trailer and landed in the truck bed and he had the floor replaced in it as well. The whole truck has been repainted.

I have since found that the bed floor was not replaced, the whole bed was. You can clearly see that no welding has been done on the bed floor from underneath. AND there is a groundstrap hanging on the back of the cab that was not hooked to the bed. BUT the bed already had an identical strap on it that has been cut. Apparently this bed was a takeoff from another vehicle.
I am curious as to what hitch is on this and since part of it is still on the truck, if I could just buy the rest and install ?

Thats what I was going for also. Maybe, you could look at different styles of hitches and compare. Most RV places I've seen stock different manufacturers.

If you can get it figured out, you got it whooped.

Is there any chance to talk to the PO and see if he knows (or will tell)?

I would rather try and figure it out myself first. The guy seemed very shady and I only bought the truck because I knew it was a good deal.

If he was hauling a race car trailer best bet it was a gooseneck trailer...because of the weight they carry compared to what a 5th wheel will carry
