What do you run?

I am about to purchase an electric brake control box to be used on several different trailers that I do not own. These will be tag a long, goose neck and maybe one day a 5er.

What type brake control do you recommend and why?
What brand do you recommend and why?

P.S. I ain't rich.
Thanks in advance!

For those of us that aren't rich, the Prodogy is great for only about $100. If you want the best out there get the brake smart! I have the one rated just below the prodogy (it came with my 5er).

I've had the Prodigy since May. No complaints. It was easy to hook up, easy to use, and comparatively cheap for the way it works. Oh, you can just about mount it in any position.

That's kind of like asking what tranny is the best or what oil is the best around here (nobody has an opinion on any of those things )

No particular order, the 3 most common replies you will see in the answer to your question:

Brakesmart, Jordan, Prodigy

There's a lot of threads out there on this but I think rock summarizes it the best. End of story.

I'll have to say the Jordan. It hooks directly to the brake peddle with a cable and works flawlessly whether in the mtns or traffic. It's about the same price as the Prodigy. I have heard good things about the Prodigy but I like the Jordan the best. Just my .02.

I prefer the Jordan too. It is proportional with your pedal which just makes more sense. It is $109 shipped. www.bestbrakecontroller.com.

We still chatter to a stop using our 11yr old Hayes brake controller. It uses a hall effect sensor and isn't the smoothest stop on bumpy roads but it works. I like the idea of the Jordon. Might have to splurge. Brake controllers don't add much bling to the ride but should be a priority.

In order Prodigy, Jordan and the best Breaksmart. I have the prodigy and am very happy with it. When breaksmart starts shipping units I will probably go with it. They are all very good controllers. Don’t go any cheaper than the Prodigy in my opinion.

I am with this. I really like the way the Jordan works and it was easy to install.

Prodigy has worked well for me. I don't know what I'm missing versus the others, but I feel that it's just fine.
