Truck Camper Recommendations

I'm looking for a smaller truck camper to live in part-time, when on the road, for my 2500 short bed. Nothing too fancy but I do want a shower, and room for a fair amount of fresh water. I'd like to keep things simple and avoid LPG so I guess that would limit me to electric (would like to go solar in this case) or diesel (draw off the truck's tank for simplicity with fueling) for the heat and stove. I know these things exist on some very pricy RVs but I don't have $200K to spend. Any ideas are welcome.

Here's one recommendation for under 5 Grand:

http://www.capricamper.com/vaquero.html

I bought one right after Katrina last year for my 04 Dually, lived in it while I pulled FEMA trailers for 3-4 months and then sold it for what I payed for it.

The owner of Capri Campers is a pretty good ol'boy. He'll work with you in "customizing" (getting rid of the second bed for shelves, so on) a unit to your specs. I did notice though that this "short bed" model does not offer a stove/cooking set up as an option so you may have to come up with something on your own to cover that.

A camper with a shower for under 5 Grand aint that a bad deal, IMO.

I think you're going to be stuck with propane stove,& heater, enless you have a lot of money to change them out to electric, etc.& a big generater to power them.I'd recomend a Northern Lite,or a Bigfoot.Maybe a Lance.Hope it helps.

I agree with the Capri campers. If I didn't get such a great deal on my pop-up, I would get a Capri.
I still might when I get back.

If you're looking for a shower, you're into the bigger units. Watch the weight on an SRW / 2500 configuration- think about Timbrens or air bags and maybe an additional leaf or at least up the overloads.

Best to check out the local RV shows - you'll get a bunch of dealers in one place and a spot to kick the tires. Remember also that you haul your house with you (unless you want to load/unload...about 20 mins each way). If you're living in it for a while, a small-ish travel trailer might be a better fit - more camper for the bucks. Truck campers are not cheap for what you're getting - check out options !
