Trailer tires ?
Trailer tires ?
15" 5th wheel trailer tires. Has anyone tried a 15" heavy load range tire like a all terrain type tire truck tire on thier trailer rather than a street tire that might get rock punctured easyer?
I know I will be going down some rough rocky Idaho dirt roads with my 25' 5th wheel trailer to camp in hunting areas. A tire with a heavyer tread that raps around more than a street tire....?

I don't own a travel trailer but have towed several boats in my lifetime. I have tried non-ST radials on trailers because of budgit restraints and IMHO it ain't worth skimping. ONLY run ST tires on your trailer. The side walls are thicker and won't roll off the rim in a short radius turn. If you want more puncture resistance go up in load range. They are thicker. The more tread on the ground uses more fuel, and an aggressive tread uses more fuel, if that is a concern. Hope you find what you need.
My son used to work at a tire dealership and states that you can get a 5 rib design that should work. Not really sure what he is talking about but it has to do with the needed sidewall flex and the scuffing of the tread as the tires turn on the trailer when you make a turn. While the speed of the tires adjusts for the turns it is kind of like the tires on the rear of your TV in that they kind of "skid" around corners. What I am trying to say here is with the engine running turn your steering wheel and see what your front tires do. This is what the trailer tires do all the time and so they must be designed to handle this "abuse".
From what I have gathered LT 15" tire sizes don't come in loadrange "D" or "E" The ST 15" trialer sizes come in the same sizes but have a higher load range "D" and some in "E" rating! Tell me if I am wrong here?
