trailer plug in

Ok I just had the B&W installed on my 07 drw. Now I need to have the trailer plug in for my gooseneck installed. However I am not sure what to do. On my chevy I had the plug in mounted at the end of the bed next to the tailgate, and run the wires down to the factory plug in next to my reciever hitch. This powered my G-neck lights and brakes and such. I loved that set up because I did not have to cut and splice wires.

However, Dodge mounts this same bracket to the darn bumper, instead of next to the hitch. So what do I do? I hate cutting factory wires. Seems to lead to trouble for me on the farm. Any advice is appreciated.

On my old truck I simply made a cable to go from the factory plug up in the bed. When I need the bed plug I simply plug in the cable to the factory plug.

At your local RV dealer they sell a box that you run the wires from the factory hitch plug into and out of and in that box it will also let you run a second set of wires up to the bed. Then you know how to drill a hole in the side of you bed to mount the plug. Also that box can be neatly mounted down by your spare tire out of sight and out of mind.

I just plug in at the bumper, and converted all the trailers to 7 pin plugs. No drilling holes in the bed for me.

A few online stores are etrailer.com and pplmotorhomes.com Either one should have what you need. You can also purchase a ready made extension cable.
It all depends on how much you want to spend, all the previous ideas so far are good.

I have a 6-pin plug hard wired to the exact spot you are talking about Hired Gun.
I just tapped the factory wires coming from the bumper plug.

Thanks for the ideas. I was afraid I would have to have the g-neck cable over the tailgate to plug it in and that would rough up the paint. I will check these ideas out this weekend. Thanks again.

Go here and buy this. http://www.hitchcorner.com/5th_wheel_wiring.htm That's what I did on Dad's 06 and it was a breeze. All plug and play just drill the hole in the side of the box and mount the plugin.

If your only going to haul your fifth wheel, just move the stock plug into the bed. It should have enough slack in the harness to get to the back of the bed. The wire dissconnects from the plug by removing a little red keeper. Then a hole saw makes a quick job of it.

I plug into the bumper.
The stock cord on the trailer was long enough.
No reason to put one in the bed IMO.

I just installed a stainless tailgate protector and the cable travels smoothly on it.

Thats what I did, Just plug it into the bumper the cord isn't going to scratch the paint on the tailgate.
