I'd recommend a car trailer design. I use my landscaping trailer w/ the rails & trying to get my Polaris turned sideways is like cow tipping - almost impossible.

Twelve years ago, I bought a big load of steel and proceeded to build a twenty foot floor length gooseneck livestock trailer.

I even built the full oil-bath hydraulic-brake axles.

I added almost all the deluxe goodies that take the price way up on store-bought trailers.

Seven foot inside height, two cut gates, nose box, right-side escape door, butterfly back doors with two slide-bar latches and four hinges per side, about a hundred lights, vacuum-over-hydraulic brakes, tandem 10K axles that oil all the way across - they hold about three gallon of lube each, longer and higher neck built bull-stout, etc., etc.

I sold an old rusty worn-out trailer for more money than it cost to build the new one.

On the other hand, I have never before or since, been involved in such a labor intensive project, about four months of nearly full-time welding.

It would be hard to convince me to try another; although, there are quite a few ideas floating around in my head.

I designed and built my GN from scratch... lots of fun, but LOTS of work!

I built a simple utility trailer a few years back. Fun project, lots of work. Don't have any plans for you, but one hot tip: BE SURE THE TONGUE IS LONG ENOUGH!!! A short tongue doesn't back or handle for squat.

$795 in the Sunday paper you can have one ready to roll. All you gotta do is go get it. Best of all, no wrok on your part, and nothing to get aligned wrong.

For atv or just general stuff, it ain't worth it to build your own.

This website has some very basic designs:

I've built a couple utility trailers and probably paid almost double for the materials compared to buying off the lot. The ones I built were stronger and had a few extra goodies.

I took a old tandom axle travel trailer frame. Cut off everything except the side rails that the axles hangers were welded too and built a flatbed utility trailer like the pictures of plans in that link.
Lot of work and welding though.
