Is it possible that trailer brakes can be engaged slightly with out showing on the digital display? If so how can i check? Hook up truck to plug ,jack up 1 side of trailer and try to manualt turn trailer tires by HAND?

I'd say they could be dragging, but probably not because of the controller. You should be able to check it though, the way you describe. If it drags, unplug the trailer from the truck and see if the dragging stops.

Thumbs down

Bummer. Trailer brakes are fine. But after more investigating I was under the assumption ihad a cummins ho. I do have the ho motor. built in 09/03 The new ho 600 cumins came out in 01/04. Feel like i kicked in the nuts.

Now that my torque / horsepower is lower in this version of the ho, at 11400 total weight for my toy hauler i would assume the truck should still pull it with ease , even up hills in arizona. and my mileage should drop down to about 8 mpg. Don/t know what else to do That won't cost me an arm/leg. Please help

mijpa please fill out your SIG so you can get better help.
Now as far as mpg's if you slow down to about 65 or just below 2000rpms your mileage will go up

Mijpa,

I don't know what you are talking about. The HO 555 torque engine is great. I tow a huge high fifth wheel that weighs in at 16,000 pounds with the same engine. I get 12 mpg towing at 60 - 65. If I push it up to 70 I drop about 1 mpg to 11. If I slow down to 55 to 60 I get 13. What is wrong with that? My last diesel pusher motorhome gave me 8. And the power is excellent. I was on 10% grades with the rig last summer in Newfoundland.

If you are having a problem pulling 11K, you have something wrong. You have some low fuel pressure, a dirty air cleaner, a leaking turbo hose - - something is wrong. Remember, 555 torque in the 03 is without a some mods done to the 600 engine that do not really make use of all of the extra 45 torque. The difference in actual available torque at the rear wheels is not all that much different between the two setups.

Well don't know what to do. I took it down to the dealer who put it on the darvey and no faults came up. not 1 so they called chrysler 5 star who the mechanics deal with and they both came to the conlusion that it is what it is! The cdi will not let the motor go into more power do to it bieng a safety feature to not screw up the tranny. That is what they told me i then called chrysler whi in turn called the dealer back . FINAL conlusion there's nothing they can do!

It seems to pull great as long as i don't climb one of the bigger mountains in arizona. up by crown king / sunset point.
