Towing a trailer behind a TT
Ok I would like schooled on the topic listed in the title.
What are the problems involved and can it even be done?
If it is stupid I dont mind being told that either.
I have a 32' TT and have thought of doing this but have only seen it maybe twice and it may have been 5vers not TTs.
Any comments appreciated.

I do it sometimes but you have to watch your weights (tongue especially) on the 2nd trailer. In my state its legal to 65' and I've even seen some states that can go up to 85'. With my TT (30') and my boat I'm right at 74' and have never had a problem with the law and have even been through a checkpoint. Around here, if it looks like a safe set-up they pretty much leave you alone...at least thats my experience. You will probably need to beef up the rear bumper of the TT before you add any weight to it. I welded a 3x3 square tubing from the center back bumper to a beam right behind it. This took all the flex out it and really strengthend it. Also, if your bumper isn't welded on, I wouldn't do it.

What are you planning on pulling behind it? A boat? A small (4x8) trailer? If you're planning on pulling much more than a few thousand pounds, I'd think twice.....

Seeing as you have a tt and not a 5ver, I'd just use the bed.... No need to add an extra trailer if not absolutely necessary. That's the bonus of a tt... you still have use of your bed.
If you can't fit it in the bed, I'd just use a rack on the back of the tt or if the spare tire is mounted on the back, buy one that fits on the back of the spare tire for the bikes and put the cooler inside the tt...
In other words, if you can avoid towing 2 trailers, I would....
Good luck.

Yeah I have been hauling them in the bed but now that I have added a bike to the list and a large cooler I have runout of space. I also like to take my pancake air compressor and blocks for the jacks. By the time that is in there it is full. I think I will try the bike rack next as they sort of end up tangled like spaghetti after a while in the bed.

Very common around here... in fact on the drive home sunday we saw more TT's with trailers than without, most were TT's not 5'ers.
My TT goes in this afternoon for a hitch.

You might consider one of these in bed bike mounting solutions to keep the bikes in one place in the bed. I am getting one before our next trip. We got tired of tripping over them inside the TT when stopping for the night. Laying bicycles down or letting them slide around or putting stuff on them is not good for the derailleurs and other components.

I have only been in the camping community for about 3 years now. It is funny how when we started we thought the camper had plenty of storage and the space in the bed was plenty for bikes and stuff. How quickly that changes.... Now I cant find space for anything extra. The bed also has a toolbox for all the tools, filters, hitches(pintle and various drop *****), straps, lube, coolant, tarps....... the list goes on. I also found how much better easier it is to set the jacks with 8x8 blocks for the corners and 8x8x18 blocks for the tongue but they take up space too. I have also found it invaluable to carry a small pancake air compressor. Which I just started a new thread asking for advice on mounting a power inverter mainly for the compressor.
So needless to say I could use more space somwhere.
On a different note, ah64id, I used the smarty jr for towing last week and found that even though it smoked more tm4 gave me better mileage than tm2. Watching the smoke roll makes you think you would be losing mileage I found that not to be the case. Is that what you have found also?

If you can avoid it than avoid it. I see lots of them and over half the people pulling two trailers should not be pulling two. Either not enough truck or not enough smarts.
Get a good bike rack, and consider getting a 12 volt air compressor and mounting a tank under the truck bed.
