Great news.

The salesperson called me today and their techs don't seem to think they are even going to be able to make this unit work with my truck.

I am sitting at 59 1/4", I can make it an even 58" if I take out the little spacer packs.

The RV sits even at 57 3/4". They are saying they can only really sqeek a few inhes out if the trailer suspension, which of course is not near enough.
I asked about an "axle flip" they are claiming that they may not be able to get a kit for that particular trailer, or it is frowned upon or something of that nature.

What now?

I would go for the axle flip if that's an option. I have seen some add something like a lift kit but not sure about the long term effect or stability.

How much clearence in the wheel wells? Larger tire diameter may give ya a little.

It might take a compliation of tricks here. Deal is, I'm not sure what the dealership is willing to spring for. They tires almost seem "tucked", like it is naturally sitting low.
I suppose it could gain an inch or so putting it on 16's, or a taller tire......
Still waiting to hear what they come up with.

Okay, brought the new toy home last weekend and just retuned today from our maiden voyage. We ended up exhausting all possibilites with the other (less expensive) unit we were looking at, it was just too low for this truck. All things happen for a reason, right? Well, this one is FAR superior to the other one in all ways. Fully enclosed underbelly with heated tanks, more modern appliances, 52 gallon fresh water, with black, grey AND galley tanks. Smooth sides, bedroom slide and many other cool features. I am so glad the other unit didn't work out now that I am own this one!
We stayed close to home incase of major issue with a totally new activity for us. (marital diharmony, towing, camping or other issue) Went to Killens Pond State Park in Lower Delaware. About a 60 mile trip from home, the truck and 5'er performed flawlessly. No issues with the camper, everything went very well from set up to departure.
Here's some shots of the truck at the Flying, Grossed out at 18,100 full of water, 60 gal.s of propane, food, firewood and supplies.
I thought I would be closer to 19K, I had plenty of carrying weight left on the max for the trailer.

I'm a little off on the level, I am comfortable with the 7 1/2" I have from the bedrails, I need to get the trailer up a bit, haven't totally decided how yet. I think 2" would button me up nice, I may go the easy route and cut some soild
bar to go in with new U bolts. That doesn't seem scary, 2 inches ain't much.

And at the site

And one of my hitch installed (note Line-X) couldn't be happier with the Line-X, really clean job.

Oh, and no 2004 Dutchmen Colorado 28BH horror stories, too late! Keep em to yourself or just lie to me.

It's not top of the line for sure, but out of the 40 or so we looked at (hundreds including new models we would never consider buying) it was the best fit. Trimmed out nicely, EVERYthing works as intended, $18K even out the door.

Man that is the worst trailer you could have possibly gotten!!! I wish I had seen this earlier...

Seriously, nice setup. I have a 97 and a tent. Your way looks a little more comfy

So do you have any money left to settle the bet with the Gecko?

As long as he is not feeling neglected... And I have to agree it is very unnatural

We've had El Dorado, Alpenlite & Hitchhiker 5th Wheels, as well as a Beaver motorhome. The Hitchhiker has been fantastic. It's the only rig I've not had to take back several times in the first year. They make nothing but 5th Wheels - no motorhomes, trailers or popups. If it's too expensive, look at a good used one.

Angry

Stay away from Forest River. I have a 28' Cedar Creek made by them and customer service is terrible. I've only had minor problems but it's been tooth and nail over every one of them.

That's ashame to hear. They build some beautiful units, that's for sure. Those Daydreamer one's,..... schew!
What do you consider "minor"? The dealer we bought our used unit from only sells the Forest River line (in fivers).

Go over to rv.net and do a search on Forest River and you will get all the information you want. I know we will never own one of their products.

Probably get flamed but here goes.

Ran into a guy in Pacific City, OR with a real nice '05 CTD 3500. He was pulling a big 5'ver, a Carriage with 3 slides. He asked about my Sunnybrook and how I liked it. Told him it was the best TT I've owned.

He says, "Yep, the Sunnybrook I owned never had a problem. That Carriage has been a lot of trouble, wish I had bought another Sunnybrook." His wife just shook her head and said, "I told you so."

I don't know anything about Carriages but based on his experience I don't think I'd buy one.

Well, I hear you on that.
I tried to search the one I bought (before I bought it) and didn't get very far. One guy who sounded like nothing was going to be good enough for him, and a few others (like, 4 threads total) saying how they wouldn't buy anything made by Dutchmen, no real details or presonal experices shared about the manufacturer or model.

Other than that rv.net is a huge resource for me so far. I'm "that guy" over there, asking all the totally newbie questions.

"What's this button do?"

That's what the wife and I want, a Sunnybrook Titan 34BWKS. Just need to find a way to pay for it.....
