Which of these trucks for towing 36-ft, 8K lbs
Hello,
I have been looking at trucks and I have narrowed it down to 2:
1) 2008 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD Crew Cab Standard Box SLT; Duramax 6.6L V8 Turbocharged with 87K miles on it; and
2)2008 Dodge Ram 2500 4WD Quad Cab 6.3 Ft Box ST; Cummins 6.7L I6 Turbocharged; 59K miles on it.
The GMC is $1500 more dollars but is loaded with all the interior options. The Dodge looks plainer on the inside.
I am going to be pulling around 8000lbs for 9 months straight, all over the country – wife and I are traveling for a while. I am looking for the most reliable truck.
Any recommendations on which truck is better and more reliable?
I also have my eye on a 2007 Chevy Silverado 4X4 fully loaded diesel with 50K on it but it’s a private seller, and he seems a bit shady.

Both will do just fine just need to see which one will be more comfy on the long haul.I have always owned Dodge and chevys I prefere dodge . you wont go wrong with ether the dodge might net you more MPGs
PS. the shorter Dodge will manuver better with the long trailer but longer wheel base will ride better

Just boils down to what truck is more comfy for ya. Both are fine trucks and will pull your trailer fine. Nothing wrong with either in my opinion. My dad has a 03 Dmax and pulling my 9-10K Toy Hauler he gets abought 1-2 MPG better than my Cummins.
After months of looking, I finally got a truck. I settled for a 2009 silverado 2500 HD 4X4 extended cab 6.6L diesel with 36k miles on it. I had to travel 16 hours to buy the truck, but so far I am happy with it. It has a few minor issues (e.g., the wiper fluid motor appears not to work) but the engine drives great. I have put about 500 miles on it around where I bought it, and it handles like a new truck. It has a warranty, so they will fix the wind shield wiper fluid issue. Thanks for all your responses, it really helped in making my final decision.
This web is a Dodge/Cummins web. GM has several diesel webs for your DMAX such as dmaxcentral or dieselplace and others for lots of Dmax owners that can help you with any issue for your truck just like this web can help any Dodge Cummins owner with a issue. It would be to your advantage to join one of those sites as they can answer any question you may have for your Dmax or even the washer motor quick fix or replacement.
Your new to you Dmax will give you excellent service if you keep regular scheduled maintenace per GM recommendations. Great truck...hit the road and enjoy.
