Re:Suspension Upgrades

You shouldnt need any upgrades unless its a very heavy 5th wheel...when you buy the 5th wheel be sure the camper is setup correctly by that I mean does it set level...is the hitch pin at the right setting to clear your bed...some new 5th wheels sit high and need the spring blocks lowered to sit level when hooked to your truck
Most people forget the amount of weight that filling the tanks add to the overall level of the camper...look under the camper at the holding tanks if they are forward the weight goes onto your truck axles..if the tanks are center they load on the trailer axles
I live in my 5th wheels and the amount of items you put into the camper can add 1000 lbs to the weight also...hope this helps...Also buy the best brake controller you can find the $150 range should be a digial controller

??? ???

Re:Suspension Upgrades

You shouldn't have any problems with a fifth up to 10k to 11k pounds. That weight should keep your truck and gross weights in a good range. Of course if you look at a high end trailer all bets are off as the weights will go up very quickly.
My old Prowler 275j set at the right weight combined. However when we upgraded to the Newmar, I'm running heavier than I want to.
You should be able to comfortably look at fifths in the 27 to 29 foot range. Also be aware that with your 4wd, you may have to flip the trailer axles to get clearance between the trailer and the truck bed. Its a simple procedure of putting the spring hangers under the axle instead of over.
Good luck.
Bill

Re:Suspension Upgrades

Jetfuel320,
I haul a 32' 5er and I upgraded the suspension with RS9000X's and airbags. My truck already had the camper towing package. The last time I loaded the 5er, the rear end was sagging so I added the airbags which help keep things level. The shocks helped the ride, as the stock shocks are not the best. Just watch your WT of the 5er, most of the high-end 5ers are pulling at about 14,000 lbs or higher. The midrange 5ers are 10,000 to 12,000 lbs. As already said, your personnel gear can add a lot of extra WT, and keep your tanks dry until you get where your going (or close to it).
Hope this helps...Big dawg
