Steer Axle Weight

I finished setting my truck up for towing a 5er and went to the CAT Scales today. The steer axle weighed in at 4400 lbs. and the drive axle at 3480 lbs.

The GAWR on the steer axle is 4750 lbs. That leaves only 350 lbs. that can be added to the steer axle.

Dose this sound right? This is my first truck over 1/2 ton so I'd like to know how much of the trailer pin weight will be transfered to the front axle.

Sounds about right....the DOT will check the door post for weights and if your overweight on a axle or GVCW they can fine you....but dont worry about the DOT checking you if your pulling a RV....their busy with the big rigs

Fresh from the dealer with a full tank and me inside the office talking to to the girl working the scales: 4300 front and 2780 rear.

I think you meant 350 left for the front? I would think you'll be ok; due to the pin location, most of the pin weight is on the rear axle.

With a three to four inch lead of the ball (difficult to really tell) on the axle and carrying 30,000 gross my front axle comes in at 4800 so with the rv you will be fine. Mine handles great, solid, no sway.
