springs too stiff

I posted this in the engine section before I found the tow/haul forum. sorry.

I bought a 5.9, 4 wheel drive, automatic, to tow my approximately 5000 lb trailer with. What I find is that the trailer does not make much of an impression on the suspension of the truck. Does anybody have any experience with trying to remove springs or respring a 2500 to make it softer and to get more suspension travel. Or does that even make any sense. Someone told me that the stiff springs on the truck, through the equalizing bars, would beat the trailer up and perhaps cause frame cracking.

I tow a 18' boat, and I like the ride whe towing actually smoother, not like I know it is back there though. Personally I would leave it the way it is for now, they will get worn. What type of shock are you running?

You could trade for one of those Toyotas. They have very soft suspensions. There's two guys here at work with them, and just plugging my hitch head intot hier hitch makes the tails drop a couple of inches. But you know I'll have to say this. I'm always amazed when someone gets a 2500 diesel truck and wants it to be softer. It can't be softer. Just the block alone will crush a 1500 suspension.

I figure the 11k trailer will soften the ride.

I've seen where the big SUV's drop the overload spring and run Timbrens to "solve" that problem.
