Show me how to tow my new TT with my 3rd gen
Show me how to tow my new TT with my 3rd gen
Trailer is 33' weighs in about 8000lb loaded. Smarty on #3 default everything
I pulled on the Hgway OD off at somewhere between 2200-2300 rpm EGT's around 7-800. mileage was around 16mpg according to over head.
On the way home with Tow/haul 1700-1800 rpm in OD (60-65)
mileage on overhead 14.5-15.1 EGT's 800-900F+
My dilemma is the truck is **** noisy with O/D locked out VS O/D, but the trailer seemed to pull better in O/D.
I am pretty sure I am running the 3.55 for gears. I am also on 285/70/17 E tires.
What do you suggest????

i feel scenario one is in order, i also think you have 410's, 17 to 1800 at 65 is lugging it if towing that is why your exh. temps went up. i like mine out of o.d. 2400 2600 rpm 65 70 mph perfect, but exh temps are higher. 900 plus
I always tow my fifth wheel in tow/haul (10,500 lbs). I never paid much attention to my fuel mileage in O/D versus O/D locked out. For the amount I tow I don't worry about fuel economy while towing (maybe average 1000-2000 kms a year).
I also don't have any gauges as I run 100% stock, so I can't tell you exhaust temp difference.
I do know it doesn't take much of a hill to kick it out of O/D, so most hills are pulled in 3rd with the noise you describe.
I wouldn't over think this...just tow in tow/haul, that is what it is there for.

With my 06 and my TT app 8000lbs, I always use tow haul mode, and try and keep it at 60 to 65, my rpm`s are below 2000, 373 gears, auto, mileage depends on head wind tail wind, mountains, my egt`s are always good, Ya but I do have a XZT tow box also,
