My truck handles our 30' just fine. You want to be sure and have adequate sway control on something that large.

I've pulled a 32 foot boat behind my truck with no problem.

Whats the Hensley got to do with it being a shortbed? The instability is a function of the trailer.

Wheelbase. I'm sure if you had a long wheelbase truck you would be just fine. I run friction bars on mine but if I was going any longer, I would first try a dual cam and if that did not work, then the Hensley.

How does it go around a corner?
I notice that EVERY picture shows the Hitch buddy straight behind the tow vehicle.
It appears that anything that far back would put a tremendous side-load on the apparatus or the rear axle of the tow vehicle as one or the other would have to be skidding on a sharp turn since the dolly axle doesn't pivot.
I noticed that all the "Manuverability Tests" seemed to be performed on a sandy surface.

Your missing the point about the Hitch Buddy.

Now I can sell my truck, buy a mini van and still be able to pull a 20,000+ lb trailer around and not even have to think about hitch weights, pin weights, load distribution, nothing at all!!!

All I need now is a couple of beers and the IQ of a helium baloon and I can take my family out on vacation in total safety!

I wouldn't touch that thing if you gave it to me.

That thing is about the equivalent idea of the dollys used on short semi trailers so you they can be tandemed or pulled with a pintle, only this looks about stupid........

I think the army and air force used to have something like that and they were called "jeeps." (I know, not THE Jeep, just jeeps.)

I might be missing something, but- I think you said Travel trailer, not fifth wheel. You say short box. Is it a quad cab or regular cab? I towed a much shorter TT with a Blazer years back. Because of the short wheel base, it wasn't the greatest. Bouncy, and less control than with a Suburban for example. If your talking about a QC short box, it is great!

not sure but don't think you can get a short box regular cab with the CTD. correct me if i am wrong.

anyway i have the quad cab so think the wheel base would be okay.
