Question.....

1) These days, do we all have MORE to say than we used to ?

or

2) Is what we have to say so much more URGENT than it used to be ?

What ever did my parents do back in the 50's when I was born, with no cell phone, no text messaging, no email ? How did they MANAGE to COMMUNICATE ? How could they ever share enough of their busy day and their million thoughts across one sitting at the supper table each night ?

Today is their 59th wedding anniversary. Maybe they lasted so long because they knew when to shut up !

This is the issue that plagues society right now... the uncontrollable urge to be on the cell phone whenever possible, very often regardless of safety issues.

I mean seriously now, all joking aside, when something is getting out of control with your towing rig, is it REALLY necessary to be yakking to someone on the cell phone??? Just how critical can it be that it requires negligence to the issue at hand?

I've seen people in the middle of major intersections trying to turn left in rush hour traffic clearly NOT paying attention to their surroundings, head cranked to the right trying to pin the cell phone to their ear.

I got rear-ended 2 years ago - why? The guy who hit me admitted that he was talking on his cell phone and not paying attention to the road ahead. (well, at least he was honest).

I'm seriously thinking of designing a switchable message neon sign for rear windows that say "Get off your phone and drive."

There is a time and place for yakking on a phone. Driving in heavy traffic and towing trailers are not these places.
