Raton Pass

I have a 40ft horse trailer weighin 14,000lbs, after I put 2 horses in it and hay and feed that will bring the total to about 16,000lbs. My question is can my 2004.5 3500 4x4 auto make it through raton pass goin to colorado.

I'm not sure about Retam pass - I've never been over it - but it should do fine over Raton pass if you choose to take that route to Colorado.

Do you mean Raton pass on the Colorado/NM border If that's what you mean you should have no problems up the pass with your truck. However, you may want to downshift on the other side of the pass (Co side) since it's about 6-7% long grade with a sharp left turn at the bottom.

P.S. If you do need some help coming up the pass let me know and I'll use my old 12-valve to pull ya up...

No Problem. I have gone through there with a 53ft and 26K pounds many times. Just keep your rpms up for a grade. Keeps the EGT's down, the boost up and the speed steady...a gear or two down might be needed now and then.

We came through there north bound in January with a 38' fiver that weighs 16,800 lbs. No problem. Came down the north side in 4th gear with the exhaust brake burping along and never had to touch the service brakes. Beautiful scenery. Enjoy the trip.

I think with a 2004.5 you can still lock out OD. That'll probably do the trick for you.

Cool,

Featherlites are pretty nice to. Can't wait to see the pics!!.

By the way the trailer in my gallery belongs to a lady who is a like a mother to me. She shows paint horses in a number of classes and has placed at the world show a couple of times. I was never really into horses even though my parents were until I met her and now I'm beginning to like them more and more. Even thinking of buying one so I can do some roping...
