Pulling a 3/4 Car Hauler

Does anyone have any experience pulling a 48ft or so 3/4 car hauler with their CTD? I would like to start pulling one with my truck but worried that because it is a SWB instead of the dually I might have problems. Any thoughts on this?

You rig is not rated enough to pull all that weight legally, check the GVW for it. At 3000lbs each car average you are talking 12000lbs of cargo + 2.500lbs trailer, that's a lot of load, you will need duals for sure.

yeah, a 3-4 car hauler is too much for a 2500. You could probably get away with a 2 car or a long 2 car/3 small car...check the gvwr though, im not sure.

Your truck could pull the weight, but you'll be tearing it up real fast. Not to mention you'll get shut down at the scale's. I'm actually having rear end trouble right now because of towing all that weight all the time with my truck.

I pull one with my 2006 3500 4X4 dually and even when the trailer is empty it squats about 2-3 inches....

It is a Take 3 car hauler but can carry 4 with the extended flip outs on the front and rear. The trailer completely empty weighs around 7000lbs...and is rated at 20,000...

Wedge trailers put a lot of weight on your rear axle. A blowout at interstate speeds on a rear tire while loaded could be catastrophic. A dually is the only safe way to go.

Well it depends on how far you are driving and how the scales are in your area.

If times are tight and you need to do some work before you can jump up to a dually you can do it with a 2500 but here is what you need to do. Have some airbags installed and go with a wider tire that is rated for heavy loads kinda like a super single style tire. If you can keep the heavy cars off your rear axle for flip them around backwards so you dont have all the motor weight pushing down on you.

You can also do it the poor mans way and go to a junk yard and make yourself the first 2500 dually in your area! I work with a guy that has done that! but you still have to worry about the scales!

i used to work for a company that constantly had us using the wrong truck for the job
now that i have my own rig and customers ill sub out the work to a truck that is able to do the job easily
rather than be in a situation where my testes end up hanging out with that dangly thing in the back of my throat

as for the guy with the 2500 if your serious about pulling that trailer around go trade in yout truck on a 3500 dually
or even wait.... for a bit ...anyone know the realease date on the 4500?

I had the same problem

I have a Dodge 1 ton Dually with a Cummins and I bought a 3 car wedge trailer to pull behind it. Your 3/4 ton is not enough truck These weights are really hard on a pick up even a 1 ton. I decided to change direction and buy a semi tracktor. Thanks to the economy you can buy a semi for less than a used Dodge diesel 1 ton. I get close to the same millage with both trucks loaded 9 mpg with the dodge 8 mpg with the Freightliner. And sleeping across the seats gets real old quick that sleeper is nice.

Good Luck

Just because the dodge has the same engine as a small Freightliner or Pete does not mean it can hall the same WEIGHT. The frame and axles and most important brakes, are not even adequate enough on any pickup to pull / hall that type of weight safely!!!!
