Prodigy brake contoller

I just bought a Prodigy brake controller. Please tell me the pro's and con's of this thing, and how do you like it. The shop sold me on it yesterday, so I thought i would give it a whirle. I currently have the Reese controller, and am tired of the jerky stopping. They said this contoller would stop that? Thanks for the comments.

I have the Prodigy brake contoller and it seems to work good. I have towed about 4000 miles and no trouble with it in the moutains. The contoller is e-z to set up and you don't have to have it level.

The prodigy is one of the best controllers on the market. Just take the time to properly set up the max voltage, and set up the boost level to the proper level. I pull a 10K 5er with mine and it has never failed to work like a charm.

Yes it is one the best on the market. I loved it, I've had it in 2 different trucks an Dakota and a Ram 3500. I towed the same TT with it and it works just great. Make sure that your TT brakes are properly adjusted, you can really tell the difference when they start to wear down. I hav enow moved up to the Ultima and a 5VR, I'm just waiting for next year to tow with it. ;D

Prodigy is very good - - until you try a Jordan. You won't go back if you do.

Bob owns stock in Jordan. ;D Only kidding Bob. I have the Prodigy and I am very happy with it. If it ever goes south, I think I would be tempted to try the Jordan. Then I would be able to offer an expert opinion. Regardless, the Prodigy is a fine product, easy to install and set up. Enjoy.

Merry Christmas to all.

Re:Prodigy brake contoller

Thanks guys, I installed it today. I think I got the voltage right. My 01 tow package has the hot wire labeled as 30 amps. The hot wire and ground wire was a big thick one, so I hope it will be enough. I was tempted to hook up the 5th wheel and give it a whirle, but I didn't. What's up with the Jordan controler? Is it supposed to be better?

Merry Christmas

Kind of like asking which is better peaches of pears? They are both fruit.

From what I've read both the Prodigy and the Jordan are top notch units. Probably two of the best from which you can pick. Personally, I use the Prodigy with my 9K 5er. It works great and does what it is supposed to do. I chose it because I got a good deal and it was available.

All this has been hashed out before, I will only leave you with one thought. Has anyone on the board used the Jordan and would go back to a surge unit? I have never heard one yet. The Protegy is the best of the surge units, but cannot match the firm, safe, postive application of brakes that the Jordan offers. You put your foot on the pedal, you know exactly what the brakes on the trailer will do. No computer or automatic features in the middle of it. My protegy lays on the bench, been there for a year and a half. I purchased a backup JOrdan just in case something should go wrong.

You've made a wise decision on the Prodigy. Don't be second guessing yourself. You made a major improvement over what you had. No jerkiness, no locking up on railroad tracks etc. Prodigy here and I love it. Set it and forget it.

You're right Haulin, this has been "discussed" many times in many places. I have not had any problems with my Prodigy. It provides smooth, controlled stops every time. I'm sure those that have the Jordon also love their units.

From what I've read these two units seem to be the best choices available for the task at hand, and you can't go wrong with either one. Like a lot of things on our trucks and in life in general it boils down to a matter of personal taste.

Re:Prodigy brake contoller

I put many many miles on the Protegy, I am fully aware of how it works. I am also aware of the 1/16 square plastic shaft that the adjuster **** is on, and breakes easily. Tip, if that happens to you, sit in Waffle House with wire cutters and break the plastic housing to get to the rehostat to get brakes again. This would not probably happen with an RV where it is always set the same, but when loading and unloading and changing it every load, it will break.

Sorry guys, didn't realize that this has been discussed before. I will do a search and read on it myself. Thanks for the comments, Merry Christmas!

Shheeeessshhhh. Ain't nothin private in this world anymore. :'( :'(

Kimrey, don't sweat it. You bought a good controller. You will learn its quirks and get used to it. Just be careful on slick pavement with it. I'm kinda with Dixie on it - - had one, used it many miles, tried a friends truck with a Jordan, had to have one. My Prodigy stayed on the old truck when it went bye bye. There is a difference, guys. Believe it. But, as stated, each man to his own opinion. My main beef with the Jordan is the adjustment **** is too small - - have to fuss with it to get is where you want it. Sure love the current read out.
