It's the COMBINATION of 3.73s and 35" tires. It's not just one or the other.

As mentioned, your overall gearing is too tall for towing.

But you SHOULD be able to slide the shifter down and wind up the engine to keep some decent speed.....

My truck is auto, 35's with 3.73. I could not pull any of the grades/passes here in Washington State on I-90/H 26 over 50 mph. This is my first travel trailer towing. I have a 20ft boat that weighs around 3800 and pulled it numerous times with my 03 6-spd with 3.73's at 70 all day any pass or grade. Is this normal? Is it the 3.73's? Do all of you have a hard time towing TT/FW's? Thanks in advance. I was very upset I couldn't go the speed limit the whole way with my 48K truck.
I pulled the Grapevine (socal) North and South with my 11,000# 27ft toyhauler no problems with the stock tire setup. I got a kick out of seeing folks with their AC's off and windows rolled down crawling up the grade and here was little old me AC on, 55-60mph chugging along.

You 6 speed guys are funny. in 3rd or 4th in an auto on the road, the gearing is dang near the same as the 6-speed in 5th or 6th, and power loss? Once the TC is locked, there's not much...

Any RPM you can attain with the accelerator pedal is safe. The engine has a governor. You could put a brick on the pedal and walk away, you will not hurt the engine.

I found the tire/rear calculator in my backup files, Lucky. Can't post a link but if you want it, send me an e-mail CoastalDav@BellSouth.Net and I will send it to you. Its an excel spread sheet picked up over at TDR a couple years ago.

It's a good one. Has the dodge 6sp, 5sp and auto tranny ratios built in.

Here's a link to another good one. This one will tell you want rear ratio you have based on tire size, engine rpm, and mph.
