New trailer - need advice
gdh11,
You keep saying all you need is a class A, that is a CDL for truck/trailer. My PA license says on the back:
CM - C - single/combo<26001 and M - motorcycle/motor driven cycle.
Also required for operating any combination of vehicles with a GVWR of less than 26,001 pounds, if the vehicle being towed has a GVWR of more than 10,000 pounds.
That is what is differant from PA.

surfram,
There's where you run into a problem, not many hitches or ***** rated to 11,000 lbs.
That's why most go with a gooseneck or 5th wheel, they are rated much higher and ride better and tow better. You would need a 32-35ft. with rating between 14-15k. Way to much for a bumper pull.

Rick - I should have been more specific. In NC there are classification licenses and then there are CDL licenses. I have been told I need a Class A Classification only. Not a CDL licence. I also spoke to a licencing agent with FMCSA and he specifically told me that "for hire" meant compensation from others so I would not need a MC number just a DOT safety rating number, that's all. Hopefully that will do the trick. I got the trailer tagged today and changed my truck license to 26K. My trailer weighs 7150lbs and my truck weighs 8250 so that leaves 10,600 for cars which a little over 3500 per car. I will have to be very careful but most of the cars I get are front wheel drive mid-sized or smaller. I just need to hit the scales often at the truck stops to make sure I am not over.
