Herb I would think you can take CDL with that 20' gooseneck as long as its gross rating is over 10k, thats the requirement for class a.

Uh, NO. Trailer over 10,000 AND GCWR (GVWRs of truck and trailer combined) over 26,000.

I chose this site because it is your state, but as you will see it is a standard nation wide.

http://www.tech-career.com/license-ok.html

A "CDL" is a Commercial Drivers License. It meets certain "standards" that are the same for every state. It differs from your Oklahoma "operator's" or "chauffeur's" licenses. It is required if you drive certain kinds of commercial vehicles either within Oklahoma or outside of Oklahoma.

WHAT IS THE COMMERCIAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY ACT OF 1986 (CMVSA/86)?

It is a law passed by the United States Congress which requires ALL the individual states to comply with certain standards in regards to the licensing of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers. Oklahoma driver licensing standards comply with the law, requiring CMV drivers to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) when driving applicable vehicles. A CDL license can ONLY be issued in the driver's STATE OF LEGAL RESIDENCE, and if you have a CDL, you can have NO OTHER DRIVER'S LICENSE in ANY other state.

WHEN DO I NEED A CDL INSTEAD OF MY REGULAR OKLAHOMA DRIVERS LICENSE?

A CDL is required if you operate any of the following CMV's . . .

A vehicle with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of more than 26,000 lbs.
A vehicle towing a unit with a manufacturer's GVWR of more than 10,000 lbs. when the GCWR exceeds 26,000 lbs.

7600 Lbs seems light for a trailer that size. My 36ft race trailer with a couple bikes and gear weighed in at 12k.

After taling to a number of people I was convinced that if for no other reason than for resale value, i would be better advised to get 6000# triple axles instead of the 5200's.
was only a 600 dollar option and it put me into not only heaveir axles but larger tires and alumunum wheels.
Now looking for a shorter (22 -28 foot ) closed cargo for my smaller loads

Still don't have a photo-trailer is being built by this company

http://www.americanhauler.com/Race_T...hawk/index.php

they have photos of the same trail at this link but it is a little shorty 48'
I have been pulling a 48' flatbed for a couple years --the new 2006 takes it down the road better than any truck i have had prior to this one.

Yeah, but they have to pull them with these to stay under the length restrictions.

Yeah but ya see, you have it backwards. Innocent until proven is in court, on the road with the DOT its is guilty until you prove yourself innocent. You are correct, in all fairness, but that is not how it works. There is nothing fair or honest about how DOT law is applied. And.... ;putting a chip on your shoulder will only get you more violations or carried to jail. Now how do I know all that?????

And it is legal. They cite you on their judgement that you are in violation, you sign a note of promase to appear. You then wait around a few days and go to court. yeah I know, you send the money and go home. But ya see, they count on that.
