just hoping sombody has an idea for putting breaks on a 20ft. goose neck. the trailer has a walking beam axle from an old mobile home(i think) and is hydraulic drums, i would like to keep this setup. i have been told that theres electric over hydraulic, any help would be great.

 

Check Out the photos on my profile, I installed a Carlisle elec./hyd actuator and disc brakes on my 42' GN.. What kind of shape is the drums/linings in..if they are worn out you might want to upgrade to disc this should be a bolt on option depending on your axles.. Both dexter and Carlisle make an elec/hyd actuator..The output pressure needed varies for the application((disc or drum), this is why i suggested the upgrade to the discs prior to ordering the unit(fixed pressure)..post some pics it will help to identify things..

 

whats the cost and time to install if everything is good(im thinking that the drums are shot so need disc) so price on actuator and disc retro. thanks for the info and help, gettin me closer

These guys have been very helpful in the past, and they ship up here rather quickly too.

Lots of knowledge to be gained from talking to them as well. Prices are sometimes as good, sometimes better than Standen's or McCoy Bros.

the Carlisle elec./ hyd actuator is going to run you about $650.

Do a Google for trailer part suppliers and compare prices

Installation time should be relatively quick as the kit will be bolt on.

The Actuator needs a relatively safe place to be mounted then it is simple (double flare) brake line hookups.. they offer kits with all of the components needed for the project, I used all SS as it was accessible besides it will hold up to road salts better..
