NEED RECOMINDATION FOR RV AWNING
I would like to install a awning on out trailer. Looking at several sites and there are a few different brands. I have never had an awning before, so I don't realy know much about them. Looking for one around 21', manual retract. Any suggestions will be welome, Thanks

The three main brands seem to be Carefree, A&E or Colorado. I have Colorado on my present unit. Had A&E on the last one. Both were quite similar and performed well. If you can afford it, get the aluminum shield - - sure helps it last longer and not catch the wind as easy. Also, go for Acrylic fabric - - it will last longer and stay brighter.

Re:NEED RECOMINDATION FOR RV AWNING
My last trailer had a Carefree of Colorado awning on it that quit retracting on its own. I have a friend that has an awning just like it that also quit just like mine. I don't know if they all have this problem but I wouldn't buy that brand if you have a choice.

Hey Sandman, maybe it is Carefree of Colorado. ??? 8) Whatever, mine sure has been a good one. My A&E got sluggish, then quit retracting on the last unit. That is not that unusual. They need lubricating once in a while and sometimes require retensioning. It is not a big deal to retension them.

I have the Carefree on my mine and it has also quit retracting, however I just need to adjust the spring to fix it. Been to busy to get it done. I am tall enough that the manual operation is no problem, I can reach everything. Spray some silicone lube spray on moving parts every now and then and it works fine. Definitely go w/ the aluminum cover to extend life of fabric or acrylic whichever you choose.

A few years ago I needed an awning for a used motorhome. I went to the local auto junk yard and found one on an RV that had burned out, but the awning was untouched. I bought the awning with all the hardware for $50.00. Quite a savings! All I had to do was remove it from the RV myself, but then I knew how to mount it on mine, just in reverse.

;D I have an A&E and have no problems. It is an 18' and costs installed by the dealer 1100$. Insurance paid for this one and the last one stayed at the campground when I left. :'(
