Any of you 5ers out there replaced your stock clutch? I've got a 2007 Quad 3500 4x4 longbed that is my daily driver, I also pull a 38ft Jayco Designer 5th wheel about 8 times a year which is around 6000-7000 miles. Before next spring I want to replace the original clutch which is starting to get weak especially when I'm manuvering the 5th wheel into a parking space. My question to you all is should I stay with the factory setup or go with an after market kit. And I'm also looking for the most economical setup, I do have a Edge programer install it's the one with 3 power levels. I don't race it or pull with it just back and forth to work and alittle play.

i'd definately upgrade, especially with what you're towing. maybe talk to the guys at south bend and see what they advise for your application, but im sure some other guys here could give you a more specific recommendation

 

I replaced my clutch in my old 2000 3500 at 185,000 miles. Used the South Bend Con O and moved up the 13" kit which you already have, 13" that is.

The clutch was like night and day picking up the fiver from a stop. I did have alot of noise with the clutch when the clutch was engaged. The vendor sent a new set up and when installed all was good. Picked up this 06 mush box last June. It does ok, but I really miss my 6 speed and exhaust brake.

Gonna change the rear in the 06 and add the exhaust brake soon.

If you are going to stay with stock power, from what I understand the South Bend Con OFE would be a good choice.

If I pull my transmission for any reason, there is no way that stock dual mass flywheel will still be there when it goes back together.

 

i run a valair in my 06 and it was a very affordable and is doing a good job so far after 35k miles. it with the new flywheel was about 600. that did not include the hydraulic upgrade tho. i'm still usints the stock untill i can afford the upgrade
