To much trailer/not enough truck????

New to the board here. Just sold my 03 Excursion 7.3 and bought a 98.5 Dodge 3500 quad cab.
I am looking at a 39ft Patio Hauler. I need something to haul my quads with.
I towed my 29ft TT with the X, but this trailer looks pretty big.
Just looking for some input.

Thanks
Doug

Welcome. The truck you have should be adequate. That is a pretty fair sized trailer though. The next step up is a MDT. Is that what your plans are?

How much weight would you put in it? You can haul 20,000 lbs pretty easy w/ a 5th wheel, 4.10 gears, and maybe a few other accessories.

Tom, what is an MDT?
The quads will weigh 1200lbs and then all the gear and and food; I woould guess another 1000lbs. The paperwork on the 5'er says over 10k lbs.

That truck should be no problem. I pull an 11.5k 5vr with a SRW 03 3500. Double check the loaded weight of the tow hauler. You may be loading it up too high

So far as the weight of the truck is concerned, I have head a lot of comments that the truck is just not heavy enough for some trailers. Consider this, the setup is the key, the tires and axles for safe towing. An 18 wheeler weighs around 17,000 and grosses 80,000 or more. Reduce all this by 1/2 and an 8500 pound truck pulling 40,000 gross would be the same ratio. The weight of our trucks is not the issue, the setup is.

True...a semi has a lot of the trailer weight riding over 8 wheels and the engine's weight is over 2 wheels. And a semi w/o a trailer is so light on the rear end that it can get stuck on spit.
