More Questions on Fifth Wheel Hitches
I purchased a Montana 2955RL and I am heading North in May to pick it up. When I bought the truck It was set up with a Reese hitch mounted on the universal rails ( “L” Brackets bolted to the frame which bolt through the bed to cross rails that the hitch bolts to). I removed and sold the hitch because I was loading a camper and didn’t have a fifth wheeler. I maintained the “L” brackets which are still attached to the frame. Now my questions:
1) Will the universal mounting set up for a PULL RITE hitch line up with the same holes and “L” brackets which are attached for the Reese hitch????
2) Any inputs on a 16K PULL RITE and 16K Reese hitches???
I am looking forward to start hauling my new Montana but I want to do it right.
Thanks Tony

I've got the 16k Pullrite. Its an excellent hitch. I like the way the pin is captured,a big hook wraps around the pin. Its got nice close clearances so there is less banging from a sloppy fit.
It wasn't cheap, but either are a truck and fifth wheel.

Pullrite is an excellent hitch. As noted, the pin is positivly captured, as a hook shaped piece of steel wraps arount the pin.
There is another hitch that uses a very similar hook design to capture the pin - the Reese/Draw-Tite Signature Series. I have the 18K Sinature Series slider. Works great and you have no rails in your truck bed.
Anyone who would drop the pin box in their truck bed using this hitch should immediately sell their 5er.

X2. I have the same hitch but not a slider. The single wrap around jaw securely captures the pin with no issues. None of that chincy double jaw clasp junk that wears out on their lower end 5ver heads. I had one of those too - they do bring the suck.
I have got A 18K Superglide with the Superrails and love it. Works awsome, and the superrails are worth the extra. When the hitch is out the box is empty. The only drawback is that you need to be relatively straight with the trailer when you hookup and unhook. The automatic slide is worth the extra price of the hitch.

I agree on the Husky/Valley comment. I have a 16K Husky with the double pivot action and hooking up is as simple as getting straight, watching the kingpin, backing til the handle returns to closed position and then checking the pin indicator that lets you know the pin is locked in place. It's also got a safety pin that locks and ensures you're locked in and that the 5er won't come loose until YOU want it to. I can honestly say, I'm glad I had trouble finding a Reese hitch and ran into the Husky first.
Hey kids -
Not to hijack, but a question for the superglide folks: Rotax800 - you may be able to help me here.
How easy is it to remove the hitch so that the bed is empty? My dealer said that the Pullrite is so heavy they have to lift it into the bed with a hoist. She is pushing the Reese but it looks like I might want to stay away from that.
I need to be able to remove the hitch so I can use the bed for other stuff. Is it feasable?
Thanks -
Steve

I probably only have the hitch in the bed 2-3 months out of the year.
I've considered it,but I've got too many neighborhood kids hanging around the house.
I could lock it but with my luck they'd find a key and kill one of themselves.
I have the superglide in my truck, it only takes 2 guys to lift it out, that's taking it out in 2 pieces and then the rails last... I have the system that leaves the bed clean but with 4 holes....
