mobile house trailer frame

Hey guys im hopin someone can help me out here! What I have is a mobile home that a guy wants to get rid of, the frame ( the house is no good) but it had no wheels or tires. I need to check on the whole axle issue as im not 100% clear on those rules, but to get it out, do they use a standard bolt pattern/wheel size? its about 2 hrs from me so it would be nice to have all my ducks in a row before i arrive

Mobile home axles take "mobile home wheels and tires". There is no lug bolt pattern because they don't have a bolt pattern. All the wheel is is the outer diameter part, there are bolts and "wedges" that hold the wheel to the hub. I think the tires/wheels are ~14-14.5". I think

If the house part is still on it, you may want to check with the DOT. I'd be surprised if there weren't certain regulations you had to follow in order to move something that big. Even of the house is free, it might end up costing a lot in fines if you have to move it 2 hrs and get caught outside the regs.

they will be 14.5"

iirc, theres two different kinds of wedges, depending on what kind of drum it has. you see one style more often than the other though.

I believe my truck can do wonderful things, but takin a house trailer (house and all) down the road isnt one of them!

I have moved several but just in town out to the dump. All we needed was pilot cars front and rear. Never moved one down the open high way. Go out to the DOT office and ask them. They will either say you can't with a pick up truck or tell you what you need to do to pull it legally. Safely is all up to you.

Beter check with DOT. Trailers with MH axles around here will get you a ticket from MoDOT. My buddy learned this the hard way.

Have you priced out new M10 9LB lately? metal is coming down a bit..

I say this as I once tried the salvage mode myself, even with an air compressor to run the impacts not all of the wood to metal bolts would come out.. The whole process of striping wood, siding, insulation ect was time consuming (even with a forklift on site). When you finally got to the frame it too required cutting, grinding ect.

I now buy new, straight and delivered to the door I beams for my trailer projects, the time saved is time spent on new construction.. JMO on the subject..

Good luck with the project..

Yeah, actually i was in the process of designing a new trailer, Took a year of mech design before i had to quit school for family reasons, And i couldnt remember the equasions to I beam deflection. Thngs gotta hold around 20k though, So i as going to take 2 6" c Channels and stack them. Then this came up, I'm not 100% sure what the trailer is like either. Im not doing the house stripping though They are.

Can anyone explain to me the deflecion equasions? Id love to build my own anyway. As im gong to modify this trailer to be A legal to pull, and B do what I want it to do( gonna be very special)

The frames on these house trailers are not very strong. They are a tall beam but not of very thick material, I'd say 12-14ga at most. So depending on what and how much you're wanting to haul its probably not the best beam to use.

Also depending on what you're going to haul will depend on which beam deflection to use. Example, loaded with pallets entire length, would be a distributed load, but loaded with a tractor would be 2 point loads.

engineersedge.com has the diagrams and equations on their site.

As i said I dont kno a whole lot about the build of a house trailer, I know rv frame isnt enough. But everyone seems to want these trailers I assumed itwould be heavy enough. Thanks again guys! any more advice would be appreciated!

KOD,

Depending on length of trailer ect.. a 12"x16 lb / ft i beam should work for you with the 2 10k axles, if you jump up to the HD 12K's you probably would want to go with a 12"x19 lb / ft i beam. You can always install a ladder bar support for additional strength. if you go the 19 lb w / 2 12k HD's you will need to go to a 2 ton truck to pull it..

If you can get a good deal on the trailer house frame then go for it.. the one I manged to salvage I made a 32ft GN out of..based on what you said it sounds like the trailer house in question will have a 10" 9lb / ft i beam in it.

Here is a pic of my 42ft GN w / 2-12K HD axels with disc brakes note the ladder bar under the front..

Here is a pic of the 32ft GN I made out of the M109LB
